Caffeoylquinic acids (CQAs) are a broad class of secondary metabolites that have been found in edible and medicinal plants from various families. It has 100 years since the discovery chlorogenic acid 1920. In recent years, number naturally derived CQAs isolated structurally elucidated. Accumulated evidence demonstrate wide range biological activities, such as antioxidation, antibacterial, antiparasitic, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiviral, antidiabetic effects. Up to date, some meaningful progresses on biosynthesis total synthesis also made. Therefore, it is necessary comprehensively summarize structure, activity, biosynthesis, chemical CQAs. This review provides extensive coverage occurring discovered 1990 until 2020. Modern isolation techniques, data (including synthesis), bioactivity summarized. would be helpful for further research potential pharmaceutical agents.

Chlorogenic acids (CQAs), the esters of caffeic and quinic acid, are biologically important phenolic compounds present in many plant species. Nowadays knowledge about their pro-health properties including anti-cancer activity is great. Yet supposition that they may be helpful fighting obesity modify glucose-6-phosphatase involved glucose metabolism has led to some revival research on CQAs natural occurrence.
