Caffeoylquinic acids (CQAs) are specialized plant metabolites we encounter in our daily life. Humans consume CQAs mg-to-gram quantities through dietary consumption of products. considered beneficial for human health, mainly due to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Recently, new biosynthetic pathways via a peroxidase-type p-coumaric acid 3-hydroxylase enzyme were discovered. More recently, GDSL lipase-like able transform monoCQAs into diCQA was identified Ipomoea batatas. recently linked memory improvement; they seem be strong indirect antioxidants Nrf2 activation. However, there is prevalent confusion the designation nomenclature different CQA isomers. Such inconsistencies critical complicate bioactivity assessment since isomers differ potency. A detailed explanation regarding origin such provided, recommendation unify suggested. Furthermore, studies on bioactivity, plant-based laboratory animal diets contain CQAs, which makes it difficult include proper control groups comparison. Therefore, synthetic diet free advised avoid interferences some may produce even at nanomolar levels. Biotransformation by gut microbiota, discovery enzymatic metabolic pathways, assessment, biological properties with potential drug development areas active, ongoing research. This review focused chemistry, biosynthesis, occurrence, analytical challenges, reported mono-, di-, tri-, tetraCQAs.

Chlorogenic and isochlorogenic acids are naturally occurring antioxidant dietary polyphenolic compounds found in high concentrations plants, fruits, vegetables, coffee, coffee by-products. The objective of this review was to assess the potential health risks associated with oral consumption by-products containing chlorogenic acids, considering both acute chronic exposure. An electronic literature search conducted, revealing that 5-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA) 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic (3,5-DCQA) major Toxicological, pharmacokinetic, clinical data from animal human studies were available for assessment, which indicated no significant evidence toxic or adverse effects following current state knowledge suggests long-term exposure by daily does not appear pose a risk when observed at doses within normal range As result, intake CQAs can be considered reasonably safe.

The methods and solvents employed in routine extraction protocols essentially impact the composition of resulting extracts, i.e., relative abundances individual biologically active metabolites quality stability isolates. Natural deep eutectic (NADESs) represent a new class environmentally friendly solvents, which are recognized as promising extractants alternative to conventional organic liquids. However, their efficiencies when applied different workflows still poorly characterized. Therefore, here, we compare potential three for natural products from Aralia elata var. mandshurica with selected using non-targeted metabolomics approach. metabolite profiling relied on reversed-phase ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (RP-UHPLC-HR-MS). roots A. were extracted by maceration, ultrasound-assisted (UAE), vibrocavitation-assisted (VAE). Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed clear separation extracts obtained NADES1 (choline chloride/malic acid) NADES2 (sorbitol/malic acid/water). Based results hierarchical clustering normalized further statistical evaluation t-test, it could be concluded that showed superior efficiency all addressed. this NADES was more detail. PCA followed t-test yielded only 3 efficiently whereas 46 compounds abundant VAE. When VAE UAE compared, 108 appeared VAE, 1 recovered UAE. These facts clearly indicate advantage method over maceration Seven twenty-seven tentatively identified tandem (MS/MS) found first time. Additional studies necessary understand applicability other plant materials.

Peucedanum ostruthium (L.) W. D. J. Koch (Apiaceae) is a worldwide perennial herb native to the mountains of central Southern Europe. The rhizome has long tradition in popular medicine, while ethnobotanical surveys have revealed local uses leaves for superficial injuries. To experimentally validate these uses, plant material was collected Gran Paradiso National Park, Aosta Valley, Italy, and were micromorphologically phytochemically characterized. Polyphenol-enriched hydroalcoholic leaf extracts, used cell-free assays, showed strong concentration-dependent antioxidant anti-inflammatory activities. In vitro tests cyclooxygenase lipoxygenase inhibition by extract, extract induced only inhibition. MTT assays on HaCaT keratinocytes L929 fibroblasts low cytotoxicity extracts. scratch wound test resulted induction closure with effect lower. same cells similar both results confirmed traditional medicinal as an healing remedy injuries but also highlighted that can be exploited purposes equal or superior effectiveness.
