Abstract This review follows the research, development and clinical applications of photosensitizer 5,10,15,20‐tetra( m ‐hydroxyphenyl)chlorin ( THPC, temoporfin) in photodynamic (cancer) therapy (PDT) other medical applications. Temoporfin is active substance medicinal product Foscan® authorized EU for palliative treatment head neck cancer. Chemistry, biochemistry pharmacology, as well temoporfin are addressed, including extensive work that has been done on formulation liposomal formulations. The literature covered from 2009 to early 2022, thereby connecting it previous this published journal [Senge, M. O. J. C. Brandt (2011) Photochem. In this review, the most valuable opportunities offered by mesoporous silica nanoparticles in field of development nanodevices for bionanotechnology applications are reviewed. Recently, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has become a promising approach for the treatment of broad range diseases, including oncological and infectious diseases. This minimally invasive localized is based on production reactive oxygen species able to destroy cancer cells inactivate pathogens by combining use photosensitizers (PSs), light, molecular oxygen. To overcome drawbacks drug systemic administration, delivery systems (DDS) can be used carrier PSs, allowing higher therapeutic efficacy minimal toxicological effects.
