The discovery of a near-infrared (NIR, 650-900 nm) fluorescent chromophore hemicyanine dye with high structural tailorability is great significance in the field detection, bioimaging, and medical therapeutic applications. It exhibits many outstanding advantages including absorption emission NIR region, tunable spectral properties, photostability as well large Stokes shift. These properties are superior to those conventional fluorogens, such coumarin, fluorescein, naphthalimides, rhodamine, cyanine. Researchers have made remarkable progress developing activity-based multifunctional probes based on skeletons for monitoring vital biomolecules living systems through output fluorescence/photoacoustic signals, integration diagnosis treatment diseases using chemotherapy or photothermal/photodynamic therapy combination therapy. achievements prompted researchers develop more smart fluorogen template. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent, non-apoptotic form of programmed cell death driven by excessive lipid peroxidation (LPO). Mounting evidence suggests that the unique modality involved in development and progression several diseases including cancer, cardiovascular (CVDs), neurodegenerative disorders, etc. However, pathogenesis signalling pathways ferroptosis are not fully understood, possibly due to lack robust tools for highly selective sensitive imaging analytes complex living systems. Up now, various small-molecule fluorescent probes have been applied as promising chemosensors studying through tracking biomolecules or microenvironment-related parameters vitro vivo.
