Many recent approaches to identity share a foundational similarity with ecological psychology, namely, place in its context. That is, they explicitly physical and social environments. Yet, we can distinguish at least two different that diverge fundamentally regards the role this "context" has identity. We refer these as "reflective identity" "situated approaches. While reflective-identity approach views context individual separate entities bi-directional relationship, situated-identity inherently intertwined inseparable. have emerged independent from each other, see potential for become comprehensively coordinated. Given that adolescents from migrant families live within at least two cultural contexts (i.e., the heritage and destination cultures), they generally must negotiate construct ethnic national identities. Accordingly, present three-wave longitudinal study was designed to identify distinct developmental trajectories of identities among ( n = 244, 56.6% female; M age 14.90, SD 0.84 Time 1). Multivariate latent class growth analyses indicated participants could be classified into one four groups based on their identity profiles: ethnic-oriented identity, national-oriented dual marginalized identity. Further, social identification with family classmates examined as a predictor memberships in these profiles. Results multinomial logistic regression analysis greater increased probability being profiles rather than profile, whereas likelihood either or profile. These findings provide novel insights roles peers influential socializing agents during negotiation immigrant youth.

Background/Aim: Little is known about how emerging adults explore, negotiate and consolidate the meanings of their identities in peer interactions. This study examined recurrent construction identity claims within everyday interactions pursuit local conversational goals. Methods: Six were paired dyads for three video-recorded conversations ‘dating, romance, sex’. Transcripts analyzed using Iterative Micro-Identity Content Analysis. Results: Recurrent included operations on content at different levels. These real-time processes facilitate formation modification socially relevant categories. Conclusion: Identity exploration may emerge from immediate social business interactions, which both actively passively contribute to development content. We highlight tension between agency constraints driving development. Future research should address link more long-lasting psychosocial outcomes.

Abstract This chapter aims to provide guidance on how conceptualize “intensive” longitudinal studies that capture participants’ daily lives at multiple times over (relatively) short intervals. Such methods are especially valuable for research questions concerning the emergence, change, and stability of specific phenomena, such as identity within individuals time. is relevant in emerging adulthood, which sees fast changes with often important life-long outcomes. The outlines key decisions researchers must make when designing studies, including formulation a question; choice timescale; operationalization intensive measure phenomenon under study; choosing an assessment method qualitative, quantitative, or mixed design; sample size; selecting participants building relationship. Rather than advocating particular methodology, provides examples detailed case study illustrate these decisions.
