Background: Staffing shortages across the healthcare sector pose a threat to continuity of Canadian system in post-COVID-19 pandemic era. We sought understand factors associated with turnover intention as well providers’ (HCPs) perspectives and experiences related both organizational professional turnover. Objective: This study investigated the rates of workplace trauma exposure, probable post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol other drug use among Australian public safety personnel (PSP). It also identified factors associated with hazardous or harmful use. Method: Data were collected through an online survey distributed to PSP in three agencies between May October 2021. A total 539 completed survey. The included questions about demographic work-based characteristics, PTSD Results: Most participants (86.8%) had experienced at least one type traumatic event work. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers (HCWs) have been exposed to highly stressful situations, including increased workloads and exposure mortality, thus posing a risk for adverse psychological outcomes, acute stress, moral injury, depression or anxiety symptoms. Although several reports sought identify types of coping strategies used by HCWs over course pandemic (e.g., physical activity, religion/spirituality, meditation, alcohol), it remains unclear which factors may influence HCWs’ choice these strategies. Accordingly, using qualitative approach, purpose present study was gain deeper understanding influencing during in Canada. Fifty-one participated virtual, semi-structured interviews between February June 2021. Interview transcripts were analysed through an inductive thematic yielding two primary themes. Healthcare providers (HCPs) have described the onset of shame- and trust-violation-related moral injuries (MI) throughout COVID-19 pandemic. Previous research suggests that HCPs may turn to various coping methods supports, such as spirituality/religiosity, substance use, friends/family or organizational support, manage workplace stress. It remains unknown, however, if similar supports are associated with MI among this population. We explored associations between (including shame trust-violation presentations individually) supports.
