Keloids (KD) and hypertrophic scars (HTS), which are quite raised pigmented have increased vascularization cellularity, formed due to the impaired healing process of cutaneous injuries in some individuals having family history genetic factors. These decrease quality life (QOL) patients greatly, pain, itching, contracture, cosmetic problems, so on, depending on location scars. Treatment/prevention that will satisfy patients’ QOL is still under development. In this article, we review pharmacotherapy for treating KD HTS, including prevention postsurgical recurrence (especially KD). Pharmacotherapy involves monotherapy using a single drug combination multiple drugs, where drugs administered orally, topically and/or through intralesional injection. addition, KD/HTS sometimes combined with surgical excision physical therapy such as cryotherapy, laser therapy, radiotherapy brachytherapy, silicone gel/sheeting. The results regarding clinical effectiveness each mono-pharmacotherapy not always consistent but rather scattered among researchers. Multimodal targets sites simultaneously more effective than mono-pharmacotherapy. literature was searched PubMed, Google Scholar, Online search engines.

This review is concerned with chronic wounds, an emphasis on biofilm and its complicated management process. The basics of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT) underlying mechanisms for microbial eradication are presented. Intrinsically active nanocarriers (polydopamine NPs, chitosan polymeric micelles) that can further potentiate the effect discussed. also delves into role photoactive electrospun nanofibers, either in their eluting or non-eluting mode action, accelerating healing wounds. Synergic strategies to augment PDT-mediated nanofibers reviewed.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) destroys tumors by generating cytotoxic oxidants that induce oxidative stress in targeted cancer cells. Antitumor lipids developed for act also inflicting similar stress. The present study investigated whether tumor response to PDT can be improved adjuvant treatment with such using the prototype molecule edelfosine. Cellular intensity following Photofrin-based PDT, edelfosine treatment, or their combination was assessed expression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) on surface treated SCCVII cells FITC-conjugated anti-HSP70 antibody staining and flow cytometry. Surface HSP70 levels became elevated after either rose much higher combined treatment. impact Photofrin-PDT-plus-edelfosine studied three types models grown syngeneic mice. With both squamous cell carcinomas MCA205 fibrosarcoma, greatest peritumoral injection at 24 h which substantially cure rates. Lewis lung carcinomas, highly effective elevating PDT-mediated rates even when injected peritumorally immediately PDT. Edelfosine used before ineffective as all models. findings provide proof-in-principle use

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common type of skin cancer. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) a promising therapeutic method for managing cSCC due to its proven ability target specific areas over time and low risk side effects. PDT may cause tissue damage vascular shutdown, regulate local immunological responses. The present study aimed investigate compare early lymphocyte modifications before after SCC. A total 10 patients with SCC were identified by pathological investigation. Initially, all wounds treated 20% aminolevulinic acid (ALA)‑PDT as initial stage in procedure. exposing them red LED light wavelength 635 nm, an energy density 100 J/cm2 intensity 80 mW/cm2. tumor was surgically removed 24 h later, another round administered. Immunohistochemistry CD3 CD56 conducted on wound post‑surgery. If showed granulation, necrosis or secretion, debridement added therapy. All monitored 0.6‑1.0 year post‑treatment. ALA‑PDT combination surgery fully controlled patients. immunohistochemical analysis tissues that expression increased, while not different photodynamic These results also indirectly indicated overall count NK cells nevertheless, there no alteration T count. In conclusion, surgical demonstrates favorable results. An increase be mechanism effective treatment PDT.

Nuclear and radiological accidents can occur due to poor management, in transportation, radiation therapy nuclear wards hospitals, leading extreme exposure serious consequences for human health. Additionally, many of previous accidents, skin damage was observed patients survivors the high exposure. However, as part a medical countermeasures nuclear/radiological emergency, it is critical plan treatment radiation-induced damage. Hence, new, non-invasive technology photodynamic (PDT) projected be more effectively used treating caused by high-dose radiation. PDT plays an important role treating, repairing promoting wound healing evidenced research. This review, highlighted recommended potential impacts repair decrease tissue Moreover, we have suggested some photosensitizer (PS) agent radio-mitigator drugs radiobiological effects.

Pathological scars result from abnormal wound healing and represent a fibrotic process in the repair of skin injuries. Post-burn are prone to malignant transformation, especially when ulceration occurs, raising concerns for precancerous lesions. We report case 56-year-old female with 50-year history large burn scar on her left forearm. The developed non-healing local pain itching over past three years. Treatment hematoporphyrin photodynamic therapy (HpD-PDT) led resolution ulceration, thinning tissue, significant alleviation itching. After five-year follow-up, there has been no recurrence suggesting that effectively promotes scarred tissue ulcerations.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been used to treat cancers. It also infectious diseases and inflammatory conditions. PDT promotes wound healing, while clinical use of for healing is uncommon not thoroughly investigated. We report a 75-year-old female with radiation-induced non-healing ulcer five years on the chest wall postmastectomy radiotherapy. Biopsy showed epidermal erosion dermal inflammation but no recurrent cancer. She was referred from care clinic after multiple unsuccessful attempts manage two involving daily home nursing visits. discussed patient who consented instead hyperbaric oxygen (HBOT) fear its side effects. Her improved total three treatments process continued 14 months since her first treatment session. The presented case supports beneficial effects chronic ulceration impeding radiotherapy wound. To our knowledge, this unique in documenting details refractory years, which developed cancer (mastectomy radiotherapy). Further study needed post-surgery radiation patients. An overview HBOT comparison presented.
