Abstract In mollusk aquaculture, a large number of Vibrio species are considered major pathogens. Conventional methods based on DNA amplification and sequencing used to accurately identify unsuitable for monitoring programs because they time-consuming expensive. Abstract Globally, Marteilia parasites have been associated with significant mass mortality events in populations of commercially important bivalve molluscs, frequently resulting large-scale fishery collapses and substantial socio-economic impacts. The Wash Estuary, UK, supports several fisheries, among these, common cockles Cerastoderma edule suffered unusually high mortalities since 2008. We investigate potential causes these mortalities, confirm infection cocosarum , strongly cockle moribundity, also confirming its presence archived samples collected 2009. The availability of multiple gene sequences, and in particular full genome sequence data, for microbial strains has changed how taxonomists delineate subspecies belonging to the Archaea Bacteria. Well-defined phylogenetic lineages that share higher similarity values compared widely used species thresholds are often described as subspecies, despite clear evidence genetic isolation between them. These well-defined lineages, reflecting notable core represent more recently evolved, unique sui generis evolutionary units. Because they bear all hallmarks species, most contemporary likely their own right. Although there is considerable value defining intraspecies variation (e.g., pathovar, serovar symbiovar), discriminating properties such units mostly encoded on accessory subgenomic compartments. A psychrotolerant facultative anaerobe, strain SKBGT, was isolated from the bottom sediments of cold mineral spring Buxichen (Buryatia, Russia). Gram-positive non-motile cocci with a diameter 1.75-2.5 µm were observed singly or in long chains. Cells grew temperature range ̶ 5-35 °C. Growth within pH 7.0-9.5, optimum growth at 7.6 and NaCl concentration 0-1.0 % (optimum 0.1 (w/v)). Strain SKBGT chemoorganoheterotroph that used sugars some organic acids as substrates.
