As a key node in the social network, political elites play an important role allocation of public resources developing countries, and they may bring benefits to their neighbours. China's large-scale poverty alleviation efforts, as well nature China acquaintance society, provides us with opportunity examine this issue. By using novel panel data from village China, our results show that households connected cadres are more likely become beneficiaries projects than those not – closer relationship cadres, greater benefits. Both favouritism information transmission proven be mechanisms connection effect. such, closely networks within communities conducive improving targeting efficiency welfare projects, external supervision is essential for eliminating elites.

Abstract Ambitious pesticide policies aiming to reduce applications and risks have been introduced across Europe. Herbicides represent a major part of use, but the uptake mechanical or agronomic alternatives remains low. Abstract Disease outbreaks are one of the major issues in aquaculture sector and can lead to significant economic losses. Although source disease is difficult trace, understanding how it occurs important mitigate problem. A crucial factor that has not received sufficient attention presence spillovers among fish farmers connected by waterways. This study examines shrimp Southern Vietnam based on primary data. In particular, quantifies effects contaminated water from farm another peer farming practices neighbors. We solve reflection problem employing a method developed social network analyses. The findings indicate farmer's affected their neighbors’ practices. Further, outbreak pond those ponds, even after controlling for contextual correlated effects. negative ponds probability may offset positive good practices, suggesting importance considering neighboring as group when addressing issue control.

Abstract Strengthening climate resilience requires farmers to select adaptation strategies like weather index insurance. Acknowledging that decision-making is not isolated, this study explores simultaneous peer imitation in choices consisting of insurance, savings, and their interaction. We present results from a lab-in-the-field experiment introduces innovative Findings indicate significant strong attitudes. While the bigger surrounding seems relevant static perspective, closer gains importance dynamic perspective. Additionally, credit, trust, practical understanding stimulate adoption. Community-based extension interventions credit-bundled products may increase insurance diffusion improve resilience.

Abstract Low-input production systems aim at mitigating agriculture's environmental impact with a lower level of chemical inputs. However, comparing the performance low-input to conventional ones, particularly in terms productivity and yield, is challenging due selection bias. First, we often lack observational data on systems. Then, when available, comparison between two potential endogeneity input use To effectively develop policies promoting adoption assess their impact, for example, pesticide yields, it crucial employ an econometric framework that addresses these issues. This article proposes endogenous switching approach combined control functions tackle bias simultaneously. Using unbalanced panel Swiss wheat production, which includes both systems, our allows us analyze differentiated role inputs as well price elasticity farming

Dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) run-off from sugarcane farms along Australia's Great Barrier Reef (GBR) coast is implicated in poor catchment water quality and putting pressure on reef health. Reducing DIN the focus of innovative policies to cut pollution maximize social benefit across economic sectors. We use Q-methodology gain insight into discourses present amongst sector stakeholders GBR catchments. Issue statements, which we aligned with concepts Theory Planned Behaviour, were ranked correlations identified generate factors that informed our descriptions discourses. found four discourse groups called stalwarts, scientific rationalists, maximisers, defenders. also collected respondent demographic data could judge propensities identify different This information can help industry innovators policymakers attributes, mindsets, appropriate language metaphors for engaging reducing pollution.

Rice–crayfish coculture systems (RCSs) have been widely promoted in China as an efficient circular agriculture model that can simultaneously improve rice quality, raise the efficiency of utilization resources, and increase farmers’ incomes. However, herd behavior farmers adoption rice–crayfish system warrants more attention, rational this by is a prerequisite for achieving above objectives. This paper analyses formation mechanism based on information cascade theory. Using micro-survey data from 603 bivariate probit model, we examine existence herding effects RCSs inhibitory effect acquisition capability behavior. To address possible endogeneity issues, also conducted robustness test using IV-probit model. Furthermore, tested between-group differences agricultural income between with non-herding adoption. The study reveals larger number prior adopters, higher probability blind farmers, indicating effect. Information ability could significantly inhibit RCSs. We found these was not economically rational. Based research findings, proposed several constructive suggestions policy perfection.
