There is increasing understanding, globally, that climate change and increased pollution will have a profound mostly harmful effect on human health. This review brings together international experts to describe both the direct (such as heat waves) indirect vector-borne disease incidence) health impacts of change. These vary depending vulnerability (i.e., existing diseases) international, economic, political, environmental context. unique also expands these issues address third category potential longer-term global health: famine, population dislocation, justice education. scholarly resource explores fully, linking them in urban rural settings developed developing countries. The finishes with practical discussion action professionals around world our field can yet take.

Global warming and climate change have increased the pollen burden frequency intensity of wildfires, sand dust storms, thunderstorms, heatwaves—with concomitant increases in air pollution, heat stress, flooding. These environmental stressors alter human exposome trigger complex immune responses. In parallel, pollutants, allergens, other factors increase risks skin mucosal barrier disruption microbial dysbiosis, while a loss biodiversity reduced exposure to diversity impairs tolerogenic development. The resulting dysregulation is contributing an immune-mediated diseases such as asthma allergic diseases, autoimmune cancer. It now abundantly clear that multisectoral, multidisciplinary, transborder efforts based on Planetary Health One approaches (which consider dependence health environment natural ecosystems) are urgently needed adapt mitigate effects change. Key actions include reducing emissions improving quality (through fossil fuel use), providing safe housing (e.g., weatherization), diets (i.e., diversity) agricultural practices, increasing green spaces. There also pressing need for collaborative, multidisciplinary research better understand pathophysiology context New data science techniques, biomarkers, economic models should be used measure impact disease, inform mitigation adaptation efforts, evaluate their effectiveness. In modern urban environments children have a high incidence of inflammatory disorders, including allergies, asthma, and type 1 diabetes. The underlying cause these according to the biodiversity hypothesis, is an imbalance in immune regulation caused by weak interaction with environmental microbes. this 2-year study, we analyzed bacterial community shifts soil surface day-care centers commensal bacteria inhabiting mouth, skin, gut children. We compared two different environments: standard intervention centers. Yards latter were amended biodiverse forest floor vegetation sod at beginning study. Intervention long-standing increase relative abundance nonpathogenic mycobacteria soils. Treatment-specific became evident composition Gammaproteobacteria, Negativicutes, Bacilli, which jointly accounted for almost 40 50% taxa on children's skin saliva, respectively. year-one swabs, richness Alpha-, Beta-, Gammaproteobacteria was higher, potentially pathogenic bacteria, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Streptococcus sp., Veillonella lower among gut, Clostridium sensu stricto decreased, particularly This study shows that shapes human microbiota, been associated regulation. Results indicate enriched microbiota suppressed skin. recommend future studies expand strategies response eventually immune-mediated diseases.

Abstract Urbanization reduces microbiological abundance and diversity, which has been associated with immune mediated diseases. Urban greening may be used as a prophylactic method to restore diversity in cities among urbanites. This study evaluated the impact of air-circulating green walls on bacterial human skin, responses determined by blood cytokine measurements. Human subjects working offices two Finnish (Lahti Tampere) participated two-week intervention, where were installed rooms experimental group. Control group worked without walls. Skin samples collected before (Day0), during (Day14) weeks after (Day28) intervention. The relative genus Lactobacillus Shannon phylum Proteobacteria class Gammaproteobacteria increased Proteobacterial was connected lower proinflammatory IL-17A level participants Lahti. In addition, change TGF-β1 levels opposite between control As skin are considered advantageous for health, induce beneficial changes microbiome. immunomodulatory potential deserves further research attention.

Abstract The One Health approach is a collaborative and interdisciplinary strategy with focal point on human, animal, environmental health interconnections. can support the advanced management of allergic diseases asthma, as complex, multifactorial driven by interactions between resilience response to exposome. According concept asthma arising from exposures wide range allergens, infectious agents irritants (such pollutants) occurring indoors outdoors be heavily influenced (air, water, soil quality) intermingled animal health. These are currently impacted climate change, land use, urbanization, migration, overpopulation, many more. Thus, coordinated address underlying factors that contribute development needs focus environment, altogether. Collaborative efforts across multiple sectors, including public health, veterinary medicine, science, community engagement thus needed. A activities, monitoring surveillance data, targeted interventions reduce allergens irritants, research mechanisms drive needed move field forward. Most studied appeared increase richness diversity specific taxa groups short-time. Immunological assessed only two studies. In these, their associations pre-dominantly reported. Conclusion: There is some evidence that so-called have potential diversify microbiota, least over short period.
