Sleep changes significantly throughout the human lifespan. Physiological modifications in sleep regulation, common with many mammals (especially circadian rhythms), predispose adolescents to loss until early adulthood. Adolescents are one-sixth of all beings and at high risk for mental diseases (particularly mood disorders) self-injury. This has been attributed incredible number occurring a limited time window that encompasses rapid biological psychosocial modifications, which teens at-risk behaviors. Adolescents’ patterns have investigated as biunivocal cause potential damaging conditions, insufficient may be both consequence health problems. The recent COVID-19 pandemic particular made detrimental contribution adolescents’ quality. In this review, we aim summarize knowledge field explore implications (and future adults’) physical health, well outline strategies prevention.

During the year 2020, COVID-19 pandemic rapidly became a severe health emergency worldwide. In order to contrast spread of novel SARS-CoV-2, many countries implemented extraordinary restrictive measures, such as strict lockdown and school closures. The had great impact on children adolescents’ daily life, leading much more sedentary lifestyle, larger use electronic devices an increase in stress-related symptoms. These conspicuous changes acted disruptors children’s normal development. Since beginning pandemic, studies reported number precocious puberty cases well faster progression rate itself, if compared pre-pandemic years. this review, our aim was evaluate incidence new early during analyzing variations timing pubertal rate, investigate role environmental lifestyle factors modulating physiopathology While direct effect SARS-CoV-2 infection remains, at moment, remote hypothesis, both physical psychological related seem have triggering GnRH pulsatile secretion earlier onset. Although 24-hour movement behaviors are known to be interconnected, limited knowledge exists about whether change in one behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic (eg, increased screen time) was associated with another reduced physical activity or sleep). This review estimates mediational associations between changes children's activity, time, and sleep pandemic.

Abstract Background Experiences during childhood and adolescence have enduring impacts on physical mental well-being, overall quality of life, socioeconomic status throughout one’s lifetime. This underscores the importance prioritizing health children adolescents to establish an impactful healthcare system that benefits both individuals society. It is crucial for providers policymakers examine relationship between COVID-19 adolescents, as this understanding will guide creation interventions policies long-term management virus. Methods In umbrella review (PROSPERO ID: CRD42023401106), systematic reviews were identified from Cochrane Database Systematic Reviews; EMBASE (OvidSP); MEDLINE (OvidSP) December 2019 February 2023. Pairwise single-arm meta-analyses extracted included reviews. The methodological appraisal was completed using AMSTAR-2 tool. Single-arm re-presented under six domains associated with condition. classified into five according evidence classification criteria. Rosenberg’s FSN calculated binary continuous measures. Based gathered meta-analyses, we constructed illustrative representation disease severity, clinical manifestations, laboratory radiological findings, treatments, 2020 2022. Insomnia, commonly treated with benzodiazepine (BZD) receptor agonists, presents challenges due to associated serious side effects such as abuse and dependence. To address these concerns, many researches have been conducted develop advance both pharmacological non-pharmacological interventions. Dual orexin antagonists (DORAs), which include suvorexant, daridorexant lemborexant, recently approved by United States Food Drug Administration (US FDA) a novel pharmacotherapeutic alternative. Unlike BZD agonists that act positive allosteric modulators of the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A subunit alpha 1 receptor, DORAs function binding types 2, inhibiting action wake-promoting neuropeptide. These drugs induce normal sleep without stage change, do not impair attention memory performance, facilitate easier awakening. However, more real-world safety information is needed. Selective orexin-2 (2-SORAs) under clinical developments. This review provides an overview mechanism in relation insomnia, pharmacokinetics, efficacy SORA. Abstract Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had a huge impact on daily life, even in countries such as Sweden where the restrictions were relatively mild. This paper assesses effects of COVID-19 physical activity (PA) patterns, screen time, and sleep among Swedish adolescents. exposures explored include gender, parental education, anthropometrics, cardiovascular fitness (CVF). Methods Cohort data collected from September 26th to December 6th, 2019, April 12th June 9th, 2021. Participants 13–14 years-old (7th graders) at baseline with 585 participating both follow-up. At follow-up PA sedentary time measured accelerometers, questionnaires. exposure variables (gender, anthropometrics CVF) baseline. Multilevel linear regression analyses performed. Results Moderate-to-vigorous-physical (MVPA) remained unchanged while light (LiPA) decreased increased. Sleep duration Girls, adolescents overweight/obesity (BMI percent body fat), those lower CVF less favourable changes time. Conclusions Although no significant (α = 0.05) seen MVPA, LiPA well changed unfavourable ways. More intense activities are often organised seem have withstood pandemic, decreased. Some groups more vulnerable will need directed intervention post-pandemic period when future pandemics hit.

Abstract Background Childhood obesity remains a significant public health concern. Sleep duration and quality among children youth are suboptimal worldwide. Accumulating evidence suggests an association between inadequate sleep risk, yet it is unclear whether this relationship causal. This systematic review examines the efficacy of interventions alone or as part lifestyle for management overweight adolescents. Methods A keyword/reference search was performed twice, in January 2021 May 2022 MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE/Ovid, PsycINFO/EBSCO, The Cochrane Library, Web Science Core Collection/Web Science, SciELO/Web CINAHL/EBSCO. Study eligibility criteria included with 5 17, were RCTs quasi-randomized, focused on treatment behavior intervention component. Risk bias assessed using Bias assessment tool (RoB2). Meta-analysis conducted to estimate effect component BMI. study protocol registered PROSPERO (CRD42021233329). Results total 8 studies (2 quasi-experiments, 6 RCTs) met inclusion accounted 2,231 participants across 7 countries. Only one design isolated reported statistically decreases weight waist circumference compared control, though we rated at high risk bias. Our meta-analysis showed no overall children’s BMI result participation (Cohen’s d = 0.18, 95% CI= -0.04, 0.40, Z 1.56, P .11), caution warranted due substantial heterogeneity observed (Tau 2 0.08; X 23.05, df 7; I 83.73%). Conclusions There mixed results BMI, other weight-related outcomes, diet, physical activity, sleep. Except low bias, three ‘some concerns’ four ‘high bias’. Findings from highlight need additional isolating component, focusing adolescents living obesity.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has unleashed unprecedented challenges with profound repercussions on adolescents’ mental health and sleep quality. However, only a few studies have focused the aspects potentially related to well-being during pandemic. present study aimed understand role of loneliness positivity difficulties sleep-related issues in emergency period. A sample N = 564 Italian adolescents ( M age 15.86, SD 1.41) participated survey. Hierarchical linear regression analyses revealed that was positively associated issues. In contrast, negatively Results also showed gender moderated relation between latency. detail, higher levels were reduced latency for females but not males. Overall, our findings highlight importance studying determinants such challenging events.
