Pediatric consultation-liaison (CL) psychiatry focuses on the treatment of mental health difficulties in physically ill children. This article three diagnoses that a pediatric CL psychiatrist commonly encounters: delirium, somatic symptom and related disorders (SSRD), medical traumatic stress (PMTS). Delirium is an acute cerebral dysfunction secondary to organic cause can present with agitation, sleep disruption, disorientation, inattention, perceptual disturbances or apathy, withdrawal. The management delirium involves underlying causes by environmental modifications pharmacological strategies. SSRDs medically unexplained symptoms which physical examination laboratory testing do not justify diagnosis known illness. Cognitive-behavioral therapy has most evidence for SSRDs, whereas interventions have insufficient improving core SSRDs. PMTS defined as set posttraumatic (PTSS) response pain, injury, serious illness, procedures, invasive frightening experiences. Brief, focused cognitive-behavioral strategies delivered family-centered approach prevent reduce symptoms. [ Psychiatr Ann . 2021;51(10):473–481.]

Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of disability and mortality among the working population, necessitating development implementation new, more effective treatment rehabilitation methods for such patients, including use modern cellular tissue technologies. In this review, an analysis summary research results over past decades regarding effectiveness various types stem cells in heart pathology were conducted. Priority directions include search accessible safe sources cells, new their cultivation, scaffolds transplantation. Given pathogenetic mechanisms cardiovascular myocardial regeneration, particular interest clinical application is drawn to tissue-specific progenitors from myocardium replacing injured cardiomyocytes, endothelial correcting accompanying dysfunction, multipotent mesenchymal origins with low immunogenicity that exhibit trophic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-apoptotic effects. Questions optimal method, dose, frequency cell administration, as well standardization criteria quality effectiveness, remain open. Additionally, combined different may serve priority strategy assessing safety therapy, especially considering paradigm repeated The successful translation obtained preclinical into further large, well-planned, placebo-controlled trials will enhance therapy diseases, which one current challenges regenerative medicine.

Health care transition (HCT) is the process of changing from a pediatric to an adult model care. Young recipients liver transplant transferring health services are highly vulnerable and subject poor long-term outcomes. Barriers successful multifaceted. A comprehensive HCT program should be initiated early in pediatrics continued throughout young adulthood, even after transfer has been completed. It critical that providers establish partnership optimize for these patients. Adult must recognize importance need continue following transfer. While this focus on essential, current literature primarily offered guidance providers. This position paper outlines framework with sample set tools implementation standardized, multidisciplinary approach utilizing “The Six Core Elements HCT.” To implement more effective strategies work improve outcomes patients undergoing transplant, mandated as routine part posttransplant Increased advocacy efforts additional backing support governing organizations required help facilitate practices.

To explore posttraumatic growth (PTG) in pediatric patients who have undergone solid organ transplant (SOT) and their caregivers, to examine potential correlates of PTG.Youth young adults with a history SOT (heart, kidney, liver) at least 1 month prior participation caregivers completed measures PTG, demographic, medical factors. In total, 59 youth (M = 12.68 years, SD 1.91), 21 19.37, 0.82), 95 37.95 9.37) participated.Overall, 67% youth, 76% adults, 89% reported PTG within the medium very high range. Appreciation Life was highest subscale across all groups. Youth caregiver scores were significantly positively correlated. Religious affiliation religious coping associated for relationship yielded large effect sizes adults. Caregivers children kidney transplants endorsed lower than other types had an acute condition greater chronic illness.Findings suggest experience can yield positive changes such as appreciation life. Although small sample may led reduced power detecting significant findings some analyses, results religious, medical, parent-child factors are likely related warrant future investigation.
