Plastics pollution poses a new threat to marine ecosystems. Mangrove locating at estuary worldwide is probably the most heavily polluted area trapping various plastics transported from terrestrial and nearby aquaculture. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) one of common plastic debris therein even in garbage. Here we showed bacterial diversity polystyrene-degrading microbial community EPS waste sites subtropical mangrove area. After enrichment with EPS, degradation consortia were obtained. They shared similar structure dominated by bacteria Sphingomonadaceae, Rhodanobacteraceae, Rhizobiaceae, Dermacoccaceae, Rhodocyclaceae, Hyphomicrobiaceae, Methyloligellaceae. Diverse standing for first member genera Novosphingobium, Gordonia, Stappia, Mesobacillus, Alcanivorax, Flexivirga, Cytobacillus, Thioclava, Thalassospira PS capability as pure culture. Further, biodegradation Gordonia sp. Novosphingobium was quantified weight loss, addition obvious morphological structural changes films observed SEM, ATR-FTIR, contact angle analysis. Coastal habitats have been suggested to serve as a sink for unaccounted plastic debris, i.e., "missing plastic" in the sea, and hence, hotspot of pollution marine coastal environments. Although accumulation debris may pose significant threats ecosystems, we know little about fate these their ecological impacts due lack studies on plastic-microbe interactions habitats, especially tropical In this study, collected from 14 sites consisting various ecosystems (seagrass meadows, mangrove forests, beaches), ecosystem (coral reef) around Singapore characterized prokaryotic eukaryotic microbial communities colonized them. Our results showed that composition plastisphere intertidal was predominantly influenced by sediment than materials. Compared with surrounding seawater, enriched potential degraders, such Muricauda, Halomonas, Brevundimonas. The also found host taxa play roles biogeochemical cycles (e.g., cyanobacteria, Erythrobacter), hygienically relevant bacteria Chryseobacterium, Brevundimonas), pathogens negatively impact health Thraustochytriaceae, Labyrinthulaceae, Flavobacterium). Taken together, our study provides valuable insights into highlighting urgent need understand accumulated habitats.

Mangrove forests are salt-tolerant intertidal vegetation in tropical and subtropical areas. ecosystems provide commercial products, valuable fisheries, aquaculture resources, protect stabilize coastlines, important carbon sinks. However, they threatened globally by human activities such as deforestation, pollution, development causing fragmentation between the well-preserved, restored, disturbed mangrove forests. Despite this, mangroves can adapt strive well notable associated with microbial diversity. Here, we investigate diversity of microbes different environmental settings using preferred reporting items for systematic meta-analyses (PRISMA) analysis publications from Scopus Web Science databases. We report since 1987, observed an exponential increase beginning year 2000, which may be molecular sequencing technologies. Differences bacterial was across environments. Disturbed had a higher (70 unique taxon orders reported) compared to well-preserved (33 restored (38 reported). Based on our analysis, found that community plays role survival adaptability under varying conditions. Thus, there is need lot potential research area microbiology reference ecology, biogeochemistry, geomorphology.
