This article provides new reflections and recommendations from authors of the initial effectiveness-implementation hybrid study manuscript additional experts in their conceptualization application. Given widespread continued use studies, critical appraisals are necessary. The offers across five conceptual methodological areas. It begins with recommendation to replace term “design” favor “study.” explicit focus on trial methodology original paper created confusion. essence studies is combining research questions concerning intervention effectiveness implementation within same study, this can should be achieved by applying a full range designs. Supporting recommendation, then guidance selecting type based evidentiary contextual information stakeholder concerns/preferences. A series presented that have been designed help investigators select most appropriate for situation. also critique 1-2-3 typology when how moving forward. Further, designs align each type. Lastly, thoughts integrate costs analyses into studies.

Evidence, in multiple forms, is a foundation of implementation science. For public health and clinical practice, evidence includes the following: type 1 on etiology burden; 2 effectiveness interventions; 3: dissemination (D&I) within context. To support vision for development use D&I science that more comprehensive equitable (particularly 3 evidence), this article aims to clarify concepts evidence, summarize ongoing debates about provide set recommendations tools/resources addressing "how-to" filling gaps most critical advancing

Abstract For the fields of implementation science and health equity, understanding being responsive to local contexts is utmost importance better inform development, implementation, evaluation healthcare public interventions increase their uptake sustainment. Contexts are multi-level include political, historical, economic, social factors that influence health, as well organizational characteristics, reflecting richness members’ views, resources, values, needs. Poor alignment between solutions those contextual characteristics could have an impact on inequities. The PRISM (Practical Robust Implementation Sustainability Model) a context-based framework incorporates RE-AIM outcomes (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance) offers guidance researchers, practitioners, patient community partners how conceptualize, assess, address domains with focus equity. Drawing from systems thinking, participatory engagement, equity principles, this commentary expands previous work 1) offer novel perspective align intervention’s core functions forms PRISM’s domains, 2) foster ongoing iterative engagement process diverse throughout research practice using co-creation approach. We recommend intervention-to-context through cycles. To end, we present Framework’s ‘outcomes cascade’ illustrate touch points opportunity gaps within across each five ‘where things go wrong’. case study recommendations for efforts responsiveness, enhance context before, during, after ensure addressed. strive make conceptual contribution advance field pragmatic evidence-based practices application contextually-based
