Use of potentially inappropriate medication (PIMs) is a prominent concern that leads to significant medication-related issues among older adults. Notably, women tend utilize more medicines than men; frequently take drugs. In addition, some evidence suggests prescription PIMs vary by gender. This study examines the gender-based variation in prescribing PIM adults Saudi Arabia.A cross-sectional retrospective analysis electronic medical records from large hospital Arabia was carried out. Patients over age 65 who received ambulatory treatment were included study. The utilization assessed based on Beers criteria. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression employed describe patterns identify factors associated with their use. All statistical analyses performed using Version 9.4 Statistical Analysis Software (SAS® 9.4).The comprised 4062 people (age 65) visited care clinics; average (72.6 ± 6.2) years. majority sample (56.8%). Among adults, 44.7% men 58.3% reported having should be avoided, indicating higher prevalence compared men. terms categories used, had much rate cardiovascular gastrointestinal drugs men, use hypertension, ischemic heart disease, asthma, osteoarthritis, cancer, while age, dyslipidemia, chronic kidney osteoporosis. This revealed sex differences adults; common women. Sex exist clinical socioeconomic characteristics related medications. essential areas could targeted further interventions improve drug-prescribing practices at risk PIM.

ABSTRACT Background The harmful outcomes of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) are highlighted among multimorbid older home care clients using several medicines. aim this study was to identify patient‐related factors associated with the initiation PIMs. Methods This register‐based used Resident Assessment Instrument‐Home Care (RAI‐HC) assessments ( n = 6176) from year 2014 2015. PIMs were identified according Beers criteria. Generalised estimating equations Findings A total 228 (11.3%) initiated during follow‐up (mean 13 months). Factors higher odds initiate education (OR 1.36, 95% CI 1.02–1.82), cognitive impairment 1.70, 1.02–2.82), reduced social interaction 1.50, 1.06–2.13), independent activity outdoors 1.72, 1.18–2.51), diabetes 1.47, 1.12–1.94), Parkinson's disease 3.42, 1.86–6.27) and longer interval between RAI 1.09 per month, 1.02–1.18). Conclusions Incidence common. results help healthcare professionals focus more attention on susceptible PIM prescribing. Preventing use is essential, especially adults impairment, prevent further decline health status admission long‐term care.

Abstract Physical activity (PA) has a substantial impact on health and mortality. Besides questionnaires that rely subjective assessment of levels, accelerometers can help to objectify an individual’s PA. In this study, variables estimating PA sleep time obtained through the wGT3X-BT monitor (ActiGraph LLC, USA) in 797 participants Berlin Aging Study II (BASE-II) were analyzed. Self-reports recorded with Rapid Assessment Activity (RAPA) Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire (PSQI). Total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein (HDL-C), low (LDL-C), triglycerides (TG), fasting glucose, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) determined accredited standard laboratory. Of all participants, 760 fulfilled wear-time criteria. sample mean age was 75.6 years (SD: 3.8 years, range 66.0–94.1 years) 53% included women. Average wear 23.2 h/day (SD 1.3 h/day). Statistically significant differences between RAPA groups found for accelerometric except energy expenditure. Post-hoc analysis, however, suggested agreement device-based physical activity. TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, TG, glucose HbA1c weakly correlated (Pearson’s r ≤ 0.25). Device-based average per night (mean = 6.91 h, SD 1.3, n 720) self-reported 7.1 1.15 410) comparable moderately 0.31, p < 0.001, 410). Results from study suggest measures assessed by are partially inconsistent terms level participants. Self-reported night, comparable.

There is no published evidence on the possible differences in multimorbidity, inappropriate prescribing, and adverse outcomes of care, simultaneously, from a sex perspective older patients. We aimed to identify those patients hospitalized because chronic disease exacerbation. A multicenter, prospective cohort study 740 (≥65 years) was designed, registering sociodemographic variables, frailty, Barthel index, conditions (CCs), geriatric syndromes (GSs), polypharmacy, potentially prescribing (PIP) according STOPP/START criteria, drug reactions (ADRs). Outcomes were length stay (LOS), discharge nursing home, in-hospital mortality, cause existence any ADR its worst consequence. Bivariate analyses between all variables performed, network graph created for each using CC GS. total included (53.2% females, 53.5% ≥85 years old). Women presented higher prevalence more living home or alone, had percentage PIP related anxiolytics pain management drugs. Moreover, they significant pairwise associations CC, such as asthma, vertigo, thyroid diseases, osteoarticular sleep disorders, with GS, pain, constipation, anxiety/depression. No immediate care observed men women exacerbation episode.
