Mindfulness, meditation and yoga are very popular today. A large number of studies meta-analyses have investigated the effectiveness such practices for health, wellness fitness. Yoga itself has repeatedly been described a science or science-based practice since 20th century. This perspective addresses question extent to which Western psychology compatible with psychology. To do this, we will first narrow down meaning “yoga,” namely on basis classical Sutras , text that is probably at least 1,600 years old. According this system, combination ethical rules, postures, breathing exercises meditative techniques. The emphasis here epistemology: Which sources accepted valid knowledge in system? Ontology then discussed broader context Indian philosophy. In further section, conceptualization localization mental faculties discussed. discusses assumptions from schools thought as yoga, seem difficult reconcile science. Human affective experience varies along the dimensions of valence (positivity or negativity) and arousal (high low activation). It remains unclear how these are represented in brain whether representations shared across different individuals diverse situational contexts. In this study, we first utilized two publicly available functional MRI datasets participants watching movies to build predictive models moment-to-moment emotional from dynamic connectivity. We tested by predicting both within datasets. Our results revealed a generalizable representation characterized interactions between multiple large-scale networks. The generalized additional movie-watching with viewing movies. contrast, did not find evidence representation. Taken together, our findings reveal embedded patterns connectivity, suggesting common underlying neural signature have made model analysis scripts facilitate its use other researchers decoding novel datasets, providing new tool probe using fMRI.

Abstract Cigarette smoking remains the leading preventable cause of death, emphasizing need for new therapeutics, such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). We tested hypothesis that TMS to three targets would reduce cigarette craving and withdrawal by modulating connectivity within between canonical networks in a randomized clinical trial (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03827265). Participants ( N = 72; DSM-5 tobacco use disorder, ≥1 year daily smoking) received one session hubs resting-state networks: dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC), superior frontal gyrus (SFG), posterior parietal (PPC), area v5 (control). Self-reports (craving, withdrawal, negative affect) functional were measured before after stimulation. SFG significantly reduced (95% CI, 0.0476–7.9559) 0.9225–8.1063) versus control, with larger effects men D 0.59) than women 0.30). did not change network connectivity, whereas dlPFC increased somatomotor, default mode, dorsal attention connectivity. No severe or unexpected treatment-related adverse events occurred. These findings suggest shows promise target smoking-cessation treatment, especially men. Further trials are warranted confirm efficacy develop imaging biomarkers precision neuromodulation.

Many functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies and presurgical mapping applications rely on mass-univariate inference with subsequent multiple comparison correction. Statistical results are frequently visualized as thresholded statistical maps. This approach has inherent limitations including the risk of drawing overly-selective conclusions based only selective passing such thresholds. article gives an overview both established newly emerging scientific approaches to supplement conventional analyses by incorporating information about subthreshold effects aim improve interpretation findings or leverage a wider array information. Topics covered include neuroimaging data visualization, p-value histogram analysis related Higher Criticism for detecting rare weak effects. Further examples from multivariate dedicated Bayesian provided.
