Research
on
the
impacts
of
COVID-19
mobility
has
focused
primarily
increased
health
vulnerabilities
involuntary
migrant
and
displaced
populations.
But
virtually
all
migration
flows
have
been
truncated
altered
because
reduced
economic
opportunities
migrants.
Here
we
use
a
well-established
framework
decision-making,
whereby
individual
decisions
combine
aspiration
ability
to
migrate,
explain
how
public
responses
pandemic
alter
patterns
among
urban
populations
across
world.
The
principal
that
affected
are:
1)
through
travel
restrictions
border
closures,
2)
by
affecting
abilities
move
other
means,
3)
aspirations
move.
Using
in-depth
qualitative
data
collected
in
six
cities
four
continents
(Accra,
Amsterdam,
Brussels,
Dhaka,
Maputo,
Worcester),
explore
with
diverse
levels
education
occupations
were
their
current
future
decisions.
We
from
interviews
sample
internal
international
migrants
non-migrants
during
2020

mechanisms

show
common
processes

geographical

developed
rapidly
from
a
nascent
area
academic
inquiry
into
an
important
and
thriving
research
field
that
traverses
epistemological
disciplinary
boundaries.
Here,
we
take
stock
scientific
progress
by
benchmarking
the
latest
decade
empirical
against
seven
core
priorities
collectively
emphasized
in
35
recent
literature
reviews.
On
basis
this
evaluation,
discuss
key
contributions
special
issue.
Overall,
find
community
made
strides
specifying
evaluating
plausible
indirect
causal
pathways
between
climatic
conditions
wide
set
conflict-related
outcomes
scope
shape
relationship.
Contributions
to
issue
push
frontier
further
along
these
lines.
Jointly,
they
demonstrate
significant
impacts
on
social
unrest
urban
settings;
point
complexity
climate–migration–unrest
link;
identify
how
agricultural
production
patterns
conflict
risk;
investigate
understudied

as
interstate
claims
individual
trust;
relevance

user
groups
across
academia
beyond.
We
long-term
gradual
potential
policy
responses

Disasters
triggered
by
natural
hazards
will
increase
in
the
future
due

climate
change,
population
