Construction and demolition waste (CDW) is one of the largest contributors to global streams, simultaneously posing significant environmental resource management challenges. The CDW, particularly its potential for energy recovery industrial symbiosis, has garnered increasing attention as part a circular economy approach. This comprehensive review explores practices in CDW management, analysing theoretical developments, technological advancements, emerging reuse trends. Background: accounts more than third all generated EU. A wide variety materials, such concrete, bricks, wood, glass, metals, plastics, make it very un-homogenous stream with high material through different approaches. Methods: draws on an extensive analysis scientific literature, case studies, industry reports assess current assessment feasibility recovery, object reconstruction. Results: originality research based Latvian study that provides valuable insights into household-level progress towards relevant UN SDGs. Conclusions: Various streams have undeniable valorization various Currently, most common approach recycling, although broaden application within framework. For instance, symbiosis solution can not only boost but also significantly increase circularity.

Construction and demolition waste (CDW) worldwide generation accounts 10 billion tonnes yearly. The major fraction is landfilled requiring innovative recycling methods to reduce the associated environmental impacts increase its circularity. Our study demonstrated feasibility of using different CDW fines develop recycled cements optimized content with well-graded crushed stone (WGCS) for use as pavement base layer. We scaled up obtaining cement aggregates from a local plant, well pilot sections designed, constructed field deflections measured. As results, pastes exhibited accumulated heat values 111 J g −1 achieved compressive strength approximately 16 MPa. unconfined resilient modulus (RM) WGCS were 2–3 >3000 MPa, respectively. intermediate behaviour compared those obtained reference materials (6% Portland cement-WGCS conventional granular made WGCS). deflection decreased over time owing pozzolanic reaction.

This study explores the application of sustainable adaptive reuse strategies in preserving historical and cultural buildings, with goal establishing a scientifically robust framework indicators for systematic evaluation practical application. Focusing on diaojiaolou (stilted buildings) along Tuojiang River ancient town Fenghuang, research integrates findings from an extensive literature review theoretical to propose multidimensional indicator system encompassing preservation, rehabilitation, urban renewal, reuse, revitalization, restoration. Through detailed field investigations comprehensive case studies, examines significance stilted including their spatial organization, structural design, material composition, decorative features. It also critically assesses effectiveness promoting regional development. The reveal that these not only preserve integrity buildings but enhance functionality meet modern needs, achieving balance among heritage conservation, environmental sustainability, socio-economic progress. validates scientific rigor utility proposed six-dimensional as evaluative tool, offering model development preservation similar assets.
