Abstract In this WIP research paper, we will present a literature review and propose design to answer the question: How are metaphors used for epistemological boundary-making in engineering education (EER)? Metaphors help us understand our world. Like light shadows, every metaphor reveals conceals different aspects of phenomenon it describes. For example, discussing broadening participation efforts as pipelines, pathways, or ecosystems has implications policy practice. So, not only influence how but also respond it. Epistemological is concerned with whose knowledge which recognized valuable.
