Objective: Adolescents managing type 1 diabetes (T1D) are at increased risk of experiencing eating disorders (EDs). Identifying factors is essential to develop preventive strategies. This study examines the potential mediation value self‐esteem and perfectionism associated with EDs in relationship between sociocultural attitudes toward appearance related a sample adolescents T1D. Methods: Forty‐six aged 12–17 years diagnosed T1D participated current study. Sociocultural appearance, EDs, were measured. Multiple simple mediator analyses using bootstrapping method bias‐corrected confidence estimates conducted. Results: Our results show that problems not only attitudes, but rather these last two variables would be fully mediated by perfectionism. Conclusions: A high degree could variable when developing adolescents. Perfectionism its self‐management prominent factor may help design interventions developed for who behaviors potentially conflict eating. The clinical implications discussed.

Abstract Objective Theories propose that low self‐esteem and problematic eating behaviors (PEBs) negatively impact each other. While previous studies suggested bidirectional associations between PEBs, they did not separate within‐person from between‐person associations. Therefore, this prospective study investigated the four PEBs in adolescence, while accounting for differences. Method We used two independent longitudinal samples of Dutch adolescents, including three annually collected waves data. Sample 1 consisted 1856 adolescents (Baseline: 50.4% males; M age = 13.79 years, SD 0.72), with measures self‐esteem, emotional eating, restrained loss control (LOC) overeating. 2 555 49.7% 13.13 0.68), LOC eating. The data were analyzed using random intercept cross‐lagged panel models (CLPMs). Results Within persons, lower was associated higher (both 1) one year later, vice versa. Self‐esteem predict, nor predicted by, overeating (Sample or 2). Between correlated all (Samples Discussion found (but overeating/LOC eating), correlations PEBs. These results have theoretical practical implications. Within‐person processes clarify underlying mechanisms explain occurrence PEBs; are important to identify at risk Public Significance theories indicate inversely within individuals, empirical disentangled This addressed disparity, finding bidirectionally eating) persons. findings suggest enhancing is a viable option prevention intervention.

Abstract Objective Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious psychiatric illness associated with significant medical and comorbidity impairment. Theoretical models of AN self‐report studies suggest that negative self‐evaluation (i.e., low self‐esteem) related to the development maintenance AN. The goal this study was extend findings from methodology using neurocognitive task probes implicitly explicitly. Method We compared female adolescent adult patients ( n = 35) healthy controls (HC, 38) on explicit endorsement words as self‐relevant), implicit (recall, recognition, reaction time), composite valence index, bias score, drift rates) indices self‐evaluation. applied drift‐diffusion model compute rates, reflecting participants' decision‐making process whether were self‐relevant. association between eating disorder severity examined. Results There Group × Condition interaction effects for all measures (all p 's ≤ .01), where group endorsed, recalled, recognized more relative positive than HC. had index scores, slower rate away words, finding recall attenuated when individuals depression excluded. Measures not severity. Discussion Using approach includes bias, results have Due cross‐sectional design, additional are needed further evaluate directionality. Public Significance Negative self‐evaluation/low self‐esteem thought contribute symptoms. Findings probe suggested anorexia self‐evaluation, reflected by endorsing remembering (than positive) controls, doing so faster. Targeting construct in treatment may be warranted.

It based 1311 participants categorized by mass index (BMI) into normal ΒΜΙ group (NBG; N = 513), an overweight obese (OBG; 492), control (CG; 309). All completed Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS), Rosenberg Self-esteem (RSES), Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26), Diet Score (MedDietScore), Fitness Evaluation Orientation subscales from original Questionnaire (MBSRQ). results multiple regression analysis indicated overall prediction variables was statistically significant. A multivariate variance (MANOVA) demonstrated existence significant interactions between groups gender across range scales. Despite higher in OBG group, they maintained positive self-esteem did not exhibit disorder tendencies. Notably, women reported greater than men all three groups. Our findings have practical implications public promotion strategies, policymaking, future research, clinical practice. Encouraging regular exercise adherence to could improve satisfaction reduce risk. Policymakers can advocate community-based policies promoting healthy habits.

Black individuals remain underrepresented in disordered eating research, despite evidence that both men and women present with behaviors. Culturally-informed theoretical frameworks suggest these behaviors may be linked to race-related sociocultural experiences, such as aspects of racial identity. While studies have focused on identity commitment, the association between attitudes toward one's remains underexplored. The study examines whether positive Blackness culture are associated eating.
