Abstract Background The Drug Burden Index (DBI) measures an individual's total exposure to anticholinergic and sedative medications. This systematic review aimed investigate the association of DBI with clinical prescribing outcomes in observational pharmaco‐epidemiological studies, effect on functional pre‐clinical models. Methods A search nine electronic databases, citation indexes gray literature was performed (April 1, 2007–December 31, 2022). Studies that reported primary data or conducted any setting humans aged ≥18 years animals were included. Quality assessment using Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory animal Experimentation risk bias tool. Results Of 2382 studies screened, 70 met inclusion criteria (65 humans, five animals). As the global demographic shifts towards an aging society, geriatric patient population is steadily increasing. These patients often suffer from comorbidities and require numerous oral medications, which can be especially challenging for dysphagic patients. Mucoadhesive buccal films seems promising could reduce pill burden, simplify administration, enable individualised drug therapy. This review aims to explore age-related changes in cavity their impact on mucoadhesive film delivery, including potential strategies overcome these barriers delivery. It was observed that impacts mucosa as well properties of saliva. There are several studies application use a wide range permeation enhancers. The 3D printing introduce dosing flexibility manufacturing.

The use of anticholinergic medications is increasing in younger ages, yet information about xerostomia, the most common side effect, limited. This case-control retrospective study examines relationship between medication-induced xerostomia and caries status among adults 18 65 years age. sample comprised 649 cases with age- gender-matched controls. burden was estimated using drug scale (ADS). Caries experience recorded by calculating Decayed, Missing, Filled Tooth (DMFT) index. Individuals had a higher mean DMFT index (16.02 ± 9.50), which corresponded level exposure from (3.26 2.81) compared to their age controls without (13.83 + 8.83 1.89 2.45, respectively). Logistic regression analysis verified effects DMFT, total number AC medications, ADS on status. Comparing or revealed statistical differences several risk factors, such as smoking, diabetes, sleep apnea, utilization medications. A personalized dental care plan should include evaluation regardless patient's prevent increased severity.

Cigarette smoking remains as a major preventable cause of morbidity and mortality around the world. Smoking causes many diseases use tobacco products is known to have detrimental effects on user, leading causation numerous adverse health outcomes. Evaluation user's risk following cessation has shown vary with affected organ, reflecting temporal dynamics underlying disease processes. The potential utility biomarkers for can provide measure damage from impact organs after products. For this review we focus three common sets which there are improved within relatively short period time cessation: cardiovascular (CVD), chronic obstructive pulmonary (COPD), oral disease. each set diseases, an overview including burden epidemiology; discussion process/pathogenesis; examples their application; future directions.

Abstract Objective Xerostomia (subjective experience of dry mouth), while less common in younger populations, can contribute to caries and oral discomfort. Use e‐cigarettes cannabis among adolescents is increasing may be a xerostomia risk factor. This study evaluates prevalence an adolescent population, overall by e‐cigarette, combustible tobacco use. Methods Cross‐sectional analyses 12‐month follow‐up data (N=976; collected 2020–2021) from cohort recruited public high schools Northern California (USA) compared self‐reported past 30‐day other use mouth (overall experience; shortened inventory, SXI). Dry (never, occasionally, frequently/always) was modelled using ordered logistic regression with school‐level clustering adjustment for gender, race/ethnicity, alcohol use, asthma, physical activity mutually Results Past 12% e‐cigarettes, 16% 3% tobacco. Occasional (54%) more than frequent/always (5%). Frequent/always prevalent frequent (>5 days/month) e‐cigarette (14%) (19%) users non‐users those respective products (all comparisons p < 0.001). In covariable‐adjusted models, no longer significantly associated (OR: 1.40; 95% CI: 0.69, 2.84), 3.17; 1.47, 6.82) 1.92; 1.38, 2.68) were greater odds reporting mouth. Findings qualitatively similar the SXI. Conclusions this study, not independently but one potential health concern

Growing prescription of anticholinergic medications has a critical effect on oral health. A link between medication-induced xerostomia (subjective feeling dryness) and high Decayed, Missing, Filled teeth (DMFT) index been reported in the older population. The purpose this retrospective study is to determine exposure prevalence most frequently used adults 18–44 years age, as well explore its association with caries status. We performed age 18 44 who received dental examination January 2019 April 2010, at Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH), Rochester, NY. reviewed electronic charts medical records 236 xerostomia. 71% young were prescribed least five or more (polypharmacy), 85% took one drug. average drug scale (ADS) was 2.93. found systemic conditions such cardiac, neurological, sleep apnea affecting DMFT by predicting status (P < 0.001). Anticholinergic younger are associated require complex interdisciplinary therapy.

The aim was to study the association between high anticholinergic burden and hyposalivation xerostomia among older people.Anticholinergic drugs have been shown cause hyposalivation. Yet there are few studies on in elderly. The population consisted of community-dwelling people (n = 321, mean age 81.6 years) from Oral health GeMS study. Participants provided salivary samples determined with a questionnaire. baseline data were collected by interviews, oral clinical examinations patient records. Each participant's eight scales. Poisson regression models robust error variance used estimate relative risks (RR) 95% confidence interval (CI).RRs scales for (multiple symptoms) ranged 1.02 1.68; low unstimulated flow (≤0.1 mL/min) 1.47 1.67; stimulated (≤0.7 0.99 2.07. A according seven out associated (p < .05) or xerostomia.A more strongly (both stimulated) than xerostomia.
