Abstract Microbiome composition has been related to blood glucose control in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The Mediterranean Diet (MD) influences microbiome healthy people. Whether MD adults long-lasting T1D through modification is not known. We aim this study investigate the relationships between MD, control, and gut T1D, also exploring feasibility of using profiles as predictive markers for clinical parameters dietary patterns. In a cross-sectional 253 individuals diet was assessed by EPIC questionnaire, adherence evaluated relative score (rMED), analyzed shotgun metagenomics HbA1c continuous monitoring. High linked improved evidenced significantly lower levels compared subjects low adherence. associated enrichment beneficial microbial species. Conversely, corresponded higher potentially harmful predicted several variables including Our results highlight effects on long-standing T1D. registered at ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT05936242.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a major contributor to liver-related morbidity, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic complications. Lifestyle interventions, including diet exercise, are first line in treating MASLD. Dietary approaches such as the low-glycemic-index Mediterranean diet, ketogenic intermittent fasting, high fiber diets have demonstrated potential addressing dysfunction underlying this condition. The development progression of MASLD closely associated with taxonomic shifts gut microbial communities, relationship well-documented literature. Given importance primary treatment for MASLD, it important understand how microbiota their byproducts mediate favorable outcomes induced by healthy dietary patterns. Conversely, changes conferred unhealthy patterns Western may induce dysbiosis influence through promoting hepatic inflammation, up-regulating lipogenesis, dysregulating bile acid metabolism, increasing insulin resistance, causing oxidative damage hepatocytes. Although emerging evidence has identified links between microbiota, significant gaps remain understanding specific roles, metabolite pathways, host interactions, causal relationships. Therefore, review aims provide mechanistic insights into role microbiota-mediated processes analysis both contribution pathophysiology. By better elucidating interplay nutrients, processes, onset work identify new opportunities targeted interventions treat efficiently.

The gut microbiota has emerged as a critical player in metabolic and liver health, with its influence extending to the pathogenesis progression of steatotic diseases. This review delves into gut-liver axis, dynamic communication network linking microbiome through metabolic, immunological, inflammatory pathways. Dysbiosis, characterized by altered microbial composition, contributes significantly development hepatic steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis via mechanisms such barrier dysfunction, metabolite production, systemic inflammation. Dietary patterns, including Mediterranean diet, are highlighted for their role modulating microbiota, improving axis integrity, attenuating injury. Additionally, emerging microbiota-based interventions, fecal transplantation bacteriophage therapy, show promise therapeutic strategies disease. With growing recognition of the pivotal role gut microbiota in human health, probiotics have gained widespread attention for their potential to restore microbial homeostasis. However, a critical challenge persists: limited colonization efficiency among most probiotic strains compromises therapeutic efficacy. This overview synthesizes ecological principles with cutting-edge microbiome research elucidate dynamic interplay between dietary components and within intestinal niche. systematically analyzes: (1) stage-specific mechanisms spanning introduction, establishment, proliferation; (2) nutrient-driven modulation composition function; (3) dual common patterns as both facilitators disruptors persistence. Notably, this identifies key strategies, including precision delivery prebiotic fibers polyphenol-microbiota crosstalk, that enhance niche adaptation through pH optimization, adhesion potentiation, competitive exclusion pathogens. Furthermore, critically evaluates current limitations research, particularly strain-specific variability methodological constraints simulating host-microbe-diet tripartite interactions. To bridge these gaps, proposes an interdisciplinary framework integrating omics-driven strain selection, engineered systems, personalized nutrition models. Abstract Background Dietary therapy, specifically for weight loss, is currently considered first-line therapy metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). However, increasing recognition of the role gut-liver axis in MASLD highlights potential microbiota-modulating dietary to improve outcomes. This study aimed explore variables relevant gut microbiota MASLD. Methods Twenty-five adults with and 25 healthy controls were recruited using a retrospective case-control design characterised 3-day intake records, clinical markers, shotgun metagenomic sequencing. Results participants consumed less fibre (p = < 0.01), very long chain omega-3 fatty acids 0.02), nuts seeds 0.03), whole grains 0.01) vegetables 0.04). Participants had lower abundance Alistipes senegalensis (r=-0.01, p 0.04), Coprococcus eutactus (r=-0.07, 0.006), Faecalibacterium (r=-0.02, 0.001), higher Ruminococcus torques (r 0.04, expression functional pathways associated ethanol production, methionine, folate branched-chain amino acid metabolism. Bacterial species more abundant positively added sugars saturated fat, negatively unsaturated intake. Conclusions Microbiota characteristics differ between individuals without MASLD, this influenced by Future translation-focused research investigating interventions gut-liver-axis are warranted.

A common consequence of Parkinson’s disease (PD) is constipation. Beyond its deleterious effect on the quality life in affected persons, constipation associated with gut microbiota dysbiosis and microbial-generated inflammatory metabolites, which may further progression. Management strategies are needed, diet, specifically higher fiber dietary patterns or supplements, be recommended. However, therapeutic effectiveness potential health benefits have been underexplored, risks unappreciated. This perspective addresses whether high-fiber diets supplements to support laxation efficacious, safe, generally feasible for people PD. Diverse sources from plant-based particularly critical balancing microbial production beneficial vs. although adherence such challenging. Supplemental needed manage symptoms. safety issues related supplementation, as appetite suppression, unintentional weight loss, risk malnutrition context neurodegeneration, must also considered. Slow colonic transit time defecatory disorders PD best managed high intakes bran hull fibers resistant fermentation, will significantly increase stool bulking. clinical trials confirm efficacy dose–response.
