Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), such as abuse, neglect, or household violence, have been identified significant risk factors for a multitude of physical and psychological conditions, motivating research to identify contributing mechanisms conditions. Substantial evidence exists that supports strong associations between ACEs symptoms post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders (EDs), addictive disorders. Recent has also elucidated link ultra-processed food addiction (UPFA), clinical presentation resembling substance use with foods (UPFs; e.g., pastries, packaged snacks, sweetened beverages). Yet, no our knowledge explored causal mediation pathways ACEs, consumption patterns UPFs, PTSD, UPFA, ED. In sample 304 adults seeking dietary counseling in private practice specializing mental health nutrition, this study conducted analyses structural equation modeling test conceptual model the hypothesized contributions UPF intake UPFA explaining relationships PTSD Symptoms fully mediated (99.4%) positive relationship ED 51.0% ACE-UPFA association. Greater frequency 23.7% symptoms, 73.8% symptomology. Relatedly, explained 46.0% association indicators pathology. Structural indicated all when analyzed simultaneously. This found influences represent blind spot current trauma-informed treatment approaches disordered eating.

Abstract Background Multiple published sources from around the world have confirmed an association between array of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and other traumatic events with eating disorders (EDs) related outcomes, including higher morbidity mortality. Methods In keeping this Special Issue’s goals, narrative review focuses on ACEs pyramid its purported mechanisms through which child maltreatment forms violence toward human beings influence health well-being individuals who develop EDs throughout life span. Relevant literature posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is highlighted when applicable. Results At every level pyramid, it shown that interact each these proclaimed escalating in a bidirectional manner contributes to predisposition, precipitation perpetuation medical psychiatric comorbidities, then predispose early death. The levels their interactions are discussed include contribution generational embodiment (genetics) historical trauma (epigenetics), social conditions local context, traumas themselves, resultant disrupted neurodevelopment, subsequent social, emotional cognitive impairment, adoption risk behaviors, development disease, disability problems, all resulting premature mortality by means fatal complications and/or suicide. Conclusions implications cascading, evolving, intertwined perspectives important for assessment treatment using trauma-informed care trauma-focused integrated approaches. This overview offers multiple opportunities at palliation prevention associated trauma-related conditions, PTSD.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) studies reveal the profound impacts of experiencing trauma and hardships in childhood. However, cumulative risk approach treating ACEs obscures heterogeneity their consequences, making actionable interventions impossible. latent class analysis (LCA) has increasingly been used to address these concerns by identifying underlying subgroups people who experience distinctive patterns co-occurring ACEs. Though LCA its strengths, existing research produces few comparable findings because results are dependent on measures indicators, which vary widely study. Therefore, a scoping review using that focuses measures, is needed inform field. Following Arksey O'Malley's five-stage methodological framework, we first identified 211 articles from databases EBSCOhost, PubMed, Scopus "adverse experiences" for title search "latent analysis" abstract search. Based inclusion criteria peer-reviewed written English published 2012 2022 exclusion nonempirical not analyzing ACEs, finally selected 58 this review. Abstract Background Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are linked to the development of gastrointestinal disorders during adulthood, but there is limited research on prevalence ACEs in Latin American populations. This study aimed assess and impact Mexican adults with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Methods In this cross‐sectional study, we recruited 290 (aged 18–65), including 90 individuals IBS 200 healthy controls. All participants completed four self‐reported questionnaires: The Childhood Experiences Questionnaire (ACEs), Visceral Sensitivity Index, Irritable Bowel Syndrome Symptom Severity Scale, Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale. Statistical analyses included mean differences using either Student's t ‐test or Wilcoxon test, correlations assessed Spearman's correlation coefficient, logistic regression models. significance was defined as a p ‐value less than 0.05. Key Results Among subjects, 80%, significantly higher 59% observed controls ( < 0.0001). Individuals exhibited elevated levels anxiety depression. Seventy‐five percent subjects severe symptoms reported more ACEs. presence found be associated an increased risk IBS. Conclusions Inferences notably prevalent among positively correlated severity pain. These findings underscore critical evaluating addressing comprehensive management within

Introduction Many people with eating disorders report having experienced childhood maltreatment or a traumatic event prior to developing an disorder. Although many have significant exposure symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, very little research has examined the effects combined treatments for this group. The purpose systematic review was synthesize all existing on biological those and psychological trauma, evaluate their safety, identify future areas in area support patients trauma. Method A multi-step literature search, according priori protocol performed PubMed, Embase, APA PsycINFO, Web Science, Scopus Cochrane Central. Studies needed include intervention at least one disorder trauma outcome. Given limited area, minimal exclusion criteria were applied. quality assessment included studies completed using Risk Bias Non-Randomized Studies-or Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), such as maltreatment and household dysfunction, are positively linked to substance use disorders (SUD), weight loss efforts, maladaptive eating behaviors, including ultra-processed food addiction (UPFA) disorder (ED) symptoms. However, the differential association of ACEs with UPFA by lifetime SUD history EDs suppression— discrepancy between an individual’s highest current weight/BMI in adulthood— have not been examined. Using logistic regression marginal effects analysis, this cross-sectional study aimed assess (1) cumulative a risk factor for screening positive EDs, (2) moderator ACE-UPFA relationship, (3) suppression ACE-ED relationship. Among 287 adults presenting private practice offering nutrition counseling recovery, presence 4 or more (compared <4 ACEs) significantly increased odds UPFA-positive screens (OR=1.99; CI=1.19-3.35; p=0.01) but ED-positive (OR=1.36; CI=0.80-2.30, p=0.25). Additionally, interaction was significant outcome (p<0.01). Those self-reported exhibited probability ACEs. Meanwhile, remained unchanged among those who did report history. Cumulative predict screens, ACE-weight meet threshold significance. Overall findings underscore cross-vulnerability addictive behaviors potential importance integrating interventions treatment

In clinical research, there has been a call to move beyond individual psychosocial factors towards identifying cultural and social that inform mental health. Similar calls have made in the eating disorders (ED) field underscoring need understand larger sociocultural influences on EDs. Abstract Background A large proportion of patients with eating disorders (ED) report experiences childhood trauma. Latent trajectory analysis in ED samples reveals the complexities course and outcome can explore long‐term impact adverse childhood. Method total 84 longstanding were included. symptoms assessed by Eating Disorder Examination interview at discharge from inpatient treatment, 1‐, 2‐, 5‐, 17‐year follow‐up, respectively. Change over time was examined using growth mixture modeling, allowing number trajectories to emerge through data. Prevalence trauma assessed, its relation class membership tested. Results We identified four distinct classes: (a) a continuous improvement entire follow‐up period, scores within normal range end, “continuous improvement” (54.8%); (b) high symptom level baseline moderate decrease time, “high declining” (22.6%); (c) initial below clinical cut‐off stable throughout course, “consistently low” (14.3%); (d) initially, significant increase increasing” (8.3%). history sexual abuse (CSA) overrepresented classes persistently levels poor Discussion Patients displayed considerable diversity change across 17 years.
