Abstract In recent years, higher education (HE) globally has witnessed extensive adoption of technology, particularly in teaching and research. The emergence generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) further accelerates this trend. However, the increasing sophistication GenAI tools raised concerns about their potential to automate research processes. Despite widespread on various fields, there is a lack multicultural perspectives its impact HE. This study addresses gap by examining usage, benefits, from standpoint. We employed an online survey that collected responses 1217 participants across 76 countries, encompassing broad range gender categories, academic disciplines, geographical locations, cultural orientations. Our findings revealed high level awareness familiarity with among respondents. A significant portion had prior experience expressed intention continue using these tools, primarily for information retrieval text paraphrasing. emphasizes importance integration education, highlighting both benefits concerns. Notably, strong correlation between dimensions respondents’ views related GenAI, including as dishonesty need ethical guidelines. We, therefore, argued responsible use can enhance learning processes, but addressing may require robust policies are responsive expectations. discussed offered recommendations researchers, educators, policymakers, aiming promote effective education.

Abstract Given the potential applications of generative AI (GenAI) in education and its rising interest research, this systematic review mapped thematic landscape 407 publications indexed Web Science, ScienceDirect Scopus. Using EPPI Reviewer, publication type, educational level, disciplines, research areas GenAI were extracted. Eight discursive themes identified, predominantly focused on ‘application, impact potential’, ‘ethical implication risks’, ‘perspectives experiences’, ‘institutional individual adoption’, ‘performance intelligence’. was conceptualised as a tool for ‘pedagogical enhancement’, ‘specialised training practices’, ‘writing assistance productivity’, ‘professional skills development’, an ‘interdisciplinary learning tool’. Key gaps highlighted include paucity discussions K‐12 education; limited exploration GenAI's using experimental procedures; ethical concerns from lens cultural dimensions. Promising opportunities future are highlighted.

The use of generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) to assist college students in their studies has become a trend. However, there is no academic consensus on whether Gen-AI can enhance the achievement students. Using meta-analytic approach, this study aims investigate effectiveness improving and explore effects different moderating variables. A total 28 articles (65 independent studies, 1909 participants) met inclusion criteria for study. results showed that significantly improved students’ with medium effect size (Hedges’s g = 0.533, 95% CI [0.408,0.659], p < .05). There were within-group differences three moderator variables, activity categories, sample size, generated content, when content was text ( 0.554, .05), 21–40 0.776, learning styles 0.600, .05) had most significant improvement student’s achievement. intervention duration, discipline types, assessment tools also moderate positive impact achievement, but any This provides theoretical basis empirical evidence scientific application development educational technology policy.

The utilization of conversational generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in learning is often seen as a double-edged sword that may lead to superficial learning. We designed and implemented programming course focusing on collaboration between students Gen AI. This study explores the dynamics such collaboration, students’ communication strategies with AI, perceived benefits, challenges encountered. Data were collected from class observations, surveys, final reports, dialogues semi-structured in-depth interviews. results showed effective AI could enhance meta-cognitive self-regulated skills positively impact human-to-human communication. further revealed difficulties individual differences collaborating complex tasks. Overall, partner, rather than just tool, enables sustainable independent learning, beyond specific tasks at given time.

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are taking the lead among technological advancements around world, societies increasingly becoming interwoven with Generative AI (GAI) in all aspects, including higher education (HE). This study’s main aim is to examine how individual-level cultural dimensions influence students’ adoption of GAI learning, drawing on an extended Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT) model. It explores impact (individualism/collectivism and uncertainty avoidance), IDT innovation factors (relative advantage, complexity, compatibility, observability, trialability), individual (self-efficacy, perceived risk) Saudi perceptions across several universities. Quantitative data were collected from 306 online survey analyzed using CB-SEM. Results highlight instrumental role dimensions, individualism/collectivism avoidance negatively affecting adoption. While complexity showed no significant impact, other variables positively influenced Furthermore, self-efficacy risk found be indicators use. The study emphasizes differences that shape technology collectivist moving toward individualism such as Saudi. identifies limitations, provides useful insights, suggests recommendations for future research uptake culturally diverse HE contexts.
