Parental
monitoring
of
teens'
activities
is
a
well-established
protective
factor
targeted
in
many
interventions
to
reduce
problem
behavior.
However,
no
paper
has
compiled

extant
recommendations
on
how
clinicians
should
seek
improve
parental
monitoring-what
psychoeducation

behaviors

and
support

behaviors.
Drawing
from
Society
for
Clinical
Child
Adolescent
Psychology's
(SCCAP)
lists
empirically
supported
treatments
adolescent
behaviors,
we
reviewed
contents
16
manualized
extracted
every
mention
monitoring,
then
synthesized
organized
content.
Our
review
yielded
23
clinicians,
which
offer
as
preliminary
list
evidence-based
monitoring.
Most
manuals
contained
fraction
total
(mean
=
8.1
out
39)
only
few
included
concrete,
detailed,
in-depth
instructions
about
monitor
or
implement
changes
Thus,
it
may
be
possible
efficacy
existing
by
borrowing
content
strategies
other
manuals.
Finally,
identified
four
major
gaps
our
that
addressed
future
empirical
research.

advice

Low
parental
monitoring
is
a
well-established
risk
factor
for

model

How Much Should We Trust Non-Experimental Studies of Parental Monitoring?

we
know
about
parental
monitoring
today
comes
almost
entirely
from
non-experimental
studies
linking
to
youth
problem
behavior.
However,
designs
produce
accurate
findings
only
when
there
is
no
confounding
of
the
association
between
and
outcome
interest.
Using
data
on
11,880
ages
9-15
years
old,
show
much
confounding:
57
74
tested
potential
confounders
were
significantly
associated
with
both
behaviors.
Together,
explained
54-100%
behavior
across
our
analyses.
We
conclude
that

Is Parental Monitoring Just A Way to Acquire Knowledge? Re-Evaluating A Re-Conceptualization

the
1950s
to
1990s,
parental
monitoring
was
conceptualized
and
studied
as
an
independent
“socializing
mechanism,”
driving
changes
in
youth
adjustment
via
several
channels.
In
past
two
decades,
has
become
re-conceptualized
many
papers
simply
one
of
ways
obtain
knowledge,
with
knowledge
replacing
construct
central
interest.
This
paper
reviews
literature
showing
that
this
re-conceptualization
is
not
supported
by
extant
empirical
evidence
strongly
contradicted
theory,
because

impact

knowledge.

Digital location tracking of children and adolescents: a review and theoretical model

Many
parents
in
the
U.S.
have
begun
using
GPS-based
digital
location
tracking
(DLT)
technologies
(smartphones,
tags,
wearables)
to
track
whereabouts
of
children
and
adolescents.
The
paper
lays
foundation
for
an
emerging
science
DLT
by
performing
first-ever
theoretical
analysis
review
empirical
literature
on
DLT.
First,
we
develop
a
framework
clarify
how
should
be
conceptualized
measured,
it
compares
historical
strategies
monitoring
youths’
location,
mechanisms
which
might
affect
youth
adjustment.
Second,
what
is
known
about
today,
finding
that
(1)
use
now
common
from
childhood
adulthood,
with
33-69%
families
it;
(2)
there
are
sociodemographic
differences
use;
(3)
has
significant
cross-sectional
associations
other
parenting
behaviors,
family
functioning,
adjustment;
(4)

speculation,
but
minimal

developmental

measurement,
