Electric and magnetic stimulation of the human brain can be used to excite or inhibit neurons. Numerous methods have been designed over years for this purpose with various advantages disadvantages that are topic review. Deep (DBS) is most direct focal application electric impulses tissue. Electrodes placed in order modulate neural activity correct parameters pathological oscillation circuits such as their amplitude frequency. Transcranial (TMS) a non-invasive alternative stimulator generating field coil scalp induces an which, turn, interacts ongoing activity. Depending upon parameters, excitation inhibition achieved. (tES) applies fields spread along skull reach brain, thus, limiting current strength avoid skin sensations cranial muscle pain. Therefore, tES only considered subthreshold, i.e., it does not directly elicit neuronal action potentials. In review, we collect hints neuroplastic changes modulation behavior, evolution clinical signs symptoms response stimulation. Possible mechanisms discussed, future paradigms suggested.

(1) Background: The Go/NoGo task and color-word Stroop were used to investigate the effect of applying different frequency bands neural oscillations lDLPFC on inhibitory control modulation. (2) Methods: Participants randomly categorized into four groups received HD-tACS at 6, 10, 20 Hz or sham stimulation 1.5 mA for min. All participants performed a before immediately after stimulation; closed-eye resting-state EEG signals acquired 3 min tasks. (3) Results: There no significant differences in behavioral indices across groups. In task, response time was significantly reduced by 6 10 stimulations compared stimulation, accuracy stimulation. range-specific (delta, theta, alpha, beta, gamma) resting power (4) Conclusions: effectively improved participants' performance demonstrating importance interference inhibition supporting causal relationship between theta alpha inhibition.

Alpha oscillations are associated with various psychiatric disorders, many studies focusing on the prefrontal cortex, where transcranial alternating current stimulation (TACS) is applied in alpha frequency band. This approach often involves selecting individualized frequencies to resonate their endogenous oscillations. While strong (8–13 Hz) typically induced when eyes closed, they can also occur during resting state open. However, it remains unclear whether these share a common neural generation mechanism. Exploring which of more suitable as stable peak question significant interest. Therefore, systematically study this issue, we specifically collected resting-state electroencephalographic (EEG) data from region 40 individuals, under both eyes-open and closed- eye conditions, multiple follow-ups extending up nine months. Through spectral analysis each person's entire dataset averaging results, observed positive correlation between alpha-band power eyes-closed states, terms absolute relative power. Further revealed that was primarily contributed by periodic activity within Upon modelling oscillatory components, discovered distinct differences characteristics-such number sub-oscillations state. Oscillatory activity in the human brain is dominated by posterior alpha oscillations (8-14 Hz), which have been shown to be functionally relevant a wide variety of cognitive tasks. Although are commonly considered single oscillator anchored at an individual frequency (IAF; ∼10 previous work suggests that IAF reflects spatial mixture different rhythms. In this study, we assess whether Independent Component Analysis (ICA) can disentangle distinct rhythms context visual short-term memory retention. Magnetoencephalography (MEG) was recorded 33 subjects while performing working task. Group analysis sensor level suggested existence increases power and decreases during Conversely, single-subject independent components revealed two dissociable rhythms: one retention (Alpha1) another (Alpha2). Individuals with multi-domain amnestic mild cognitive impairment (md-aMCI) have an elevated risk of dementia and need interventions that may retain or remediate function. In a feasibility pilot study, 30 older adults aged 60-80 years md-aMCI were randomized to 8 sessions transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) simultaneous control training (CCT). The intervention took place within the participant's home without direct researcher assistance. Half participants received prefrontal theta tACS during CCT other half tACS. We observed high tolerability adherence for at-home + CCT. Within 1-week, only those who exhibited improved attentional abilities. Neuromodulation is feasible in-home settings, which can be conducted by patient, thereby enabling treatment in difficult reach populations. TACS facilitate abilities md-aMCI, but research larger population needed validate efficacy.

Noninvasive transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) attracted considerable scientific interest due its ability modulate brain functioning. Neuromodulation apparently improves functions engaged sports This opinion manuscript aimed reveal that tES likely an adjunct ergogenic resource for improving processes, counteracting mental fatigue, managing anxiety athletes. Modulating inhibitory control through over frontal cortex might largely contribute improvement studies athletes are required assess long-term effects application as aid conjunction with other training methods (e.g., neurofeedback, imagery) where trainable.
