Abstract BACKGROUND The discovery of antimicrobial ingredients from natural products could be an effective way to create novel fungicides. Rubia cordifolia L., a traditional Chinese herb, may have effects on plant pathogens according our previous screening study. RESULTS L. extracts had moderate inhibitory apple Valsa canker ( mali ) and tomato grey mould Botrytis cinerea at concentration 10 mg mL −1 . With the use bioguided isolation methods, eight compounds 1–8 were obtained, including new compound 2,2,6‐trimethyl‐6‐(4‐methylphenyl)‐tetrahydropyrano‐ 3‐ol 7 ), seven quinone derivatives. Two compounds, mollugin 1 1,3,6‐trihydroxy‐2‐methylanthraquinone 6 found exhibit outstanding antifungal activities against V. Phytophthora capsici Leon. half maximal (EC 50 79.08 81.78 μg , respectively, EC P. was 4.86 Compound also showed excellent activity tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). inactive, inductive, protective curative TMV 84.29%, 83.38%, 86.81%, 60.02%, 500 which all close or greater than that positive control (100 chitosan oligosaccharide, COS). The growth and quality of medicinal plants depend heavily on environmental variables. Rubia cordifolia , an important plant, is determined by the two main secondary metabolites root, purpurin mollugin. However, their relationship with factors has not been studied. In this study, mollugin contents R. roots from different sampling sites in China were measured using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography, correlations between variables analyzed. results showed that there significant differences at points. content ranged 0.00 to 3.03 mg g -1 while 0.03 10.09 . Shanxi, Shaanxi Henan border areas southeastern Liaoning was higher. expected become a planting area Northeast China. Correlation regression analysis revealed affected factors, positively correlated longitude latitude, negatively soil nutrients. addition, higher temperature shorter sunshine duration facilitated synthesis purpurin. Annual precipitation might be factor limiting because it had opposite effects major metabolites. Therefore, study great significance for selection improvement field quality.

Diabetic neuropathy is a debilitating manifestation of long-term diabetes mellitus. The present study explored the effects roots Rubia cordifolia L. (R. L.) in Wistar rat model for diabetic and possible neuroprotective, antidiabetic, analgesic mechanisms underlying this effect.Rats were divided into five experimental groups. An amount 0.25% carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) saline streptozotocin (STZ) (60 mg/kg) was given to group 1 2, respectively. Group 3 treated with STZ glibenclamide simultaneously while groups 4 5 hydroalcoholic extract root R. cordifolia, Hot plate cold allodynias used evaluate pain threshold. antioxidant assessed by measuring Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD). At end study, sciatic nerve brain tissues collected histopathological study. Bcl-2 proteins, cleaved caspase-3, Bax through Western blot method.R. significantly attenuated paw withdrawal tail flick latency neuropathic rats. (p < 0.01) improved levels oxidative stress. It found decrease blood glucose increase animal weight cordifolia-treated Treatment suppressed caspase-3 Bax:Bcl2 ratio tissue compared group. Histopathological analysis also revealed marked improvement architecture loss axons at higher dose (400 mg/kg).R. its antidiabetic properties ameliorating apoptosis

Purpose: Rubia cordifolia L. (RC) is a classic herbal medicine for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and has been used since ancient times.The ethanol extract (RCE) showed obvious anti-RA effects in our previous study.However, further potential mechanisms require more exploration.We aimed to investigate mechanism RCE RA by integrating metabolomics network pharmacology this study.Methods: An adjuvant-induced (AIA) rat model was established, we evaluated therapeutic RCE.Metabolomics serum urine identify differential metabolites.Network applied determine key metabolites targets.Finally, targets compounds were verified molecular docking.
