Microplastics (MPs), miniscule plastic particles measuring less than 5 mm in size, have become a concern terrestrial ecosystems, with primarily agricultural and wetland soils being the highest loadings. The adverse effect of MPs might lead to changes physicochemical biological characteristics soil including properties, microbial communities, plants, as well potential or affirmed correlations among them. Therefore, understanding risks effects MPs, particularly within soil-plant-microbe context is challenging subject substantial scientific inquiry. This comprehensive review focused on rhizosphere plant-microbe symbiotic relationships, implications for plant growth ecosystem-level nutrient fluxes. alter community composition, enzymatic activities rhizosphere, influencing availability uptake by plants. Abstract Contamination of soils in agroecosystems with microplastics (MPs) is increasing concern. The contamination the environment/farmland MPs (1 µm to 5 mm sized particles) and nanoplastics (NPs; <1 causing numerous effects on ecological soil functions human health. enter via several sources, either from intentional plastic use (e.g., mulch, greenhouses, plastic‐coated products) or indirectly input sewage sludge, compost, irrigation water that contaminated plastic. Once soil, debris can have various impacts such as changes physicochemical properties it affects organisms due its toxic behavior. This review paper describes different waste understand consequences for agricultural productivity. Furthermore, we identify knowledge gaps highlight required approaches, indicating future research directions transport, fate improve our understanding unspecified abiotic biotic MP pollution agroecosystems.

ABSTRACT Microplastic (MP) pollution, a global environmental problem, has been recently studied in marine and freshwater environments. However, our understanding of MP effect on terrestrial ecosystems, especially carbon (C) nitrogen (N) turnover remains poor. This review summarizes the sources distribution characteristics MPs ecosystems explores their effects soil properties, plant growth, C N turnover. Once entering ecosystem, could involve sequestrating by changing properties (e.g., pH, aggregate stability, porosity). exert direct influences plants or physical environment microbial metabolic to indirectly affect thus altering quantity quality inputs shifts litter roots. The changes dominant bacteria phyla, related functional genes, enzymes caused pollution cycles. Additionally, varies with its types, shapes, elemental composition, groups, released additives). Future researches should unify standard system separation, detection, reveal ecological MPs, impacts cycles context climate changes.

In the middle of 20th century, production plastics exploded worldwide because their low cost and versatility applications. However, since plastic debris is highly resistant to environmental degradation, a growing presence in all ecosystems has been confirmed. Among them, particles < 5 mm, also known as microplastics (MPs), are special concern they dispersed aerial, terrestrial aquatic environments, being soil main sink these contaminants. Due large specific surface area hydrophobicity, MPs considered good adsorbents for other organic pollutants present ecosystems, such pharmaceuticals, personal-care products or pesticides with which can interact thus modify fate. this review article, we examine recent literature (from 2017 2022) get better understanding fate (adsorption, mobility and/or degradation) when simultaneously ecological risks on living organisms interactions between soil. More studies needed fully understand toxicological impact copresence MPs.

Microplastics (MPs) contamination is an emerging issue globally; however, adverse impacts of MPs on soil, plants and microbial activity have not been intensively studied. In this study, the potential effect different levels (1.5, 7.5, 15%) has investigated soil properties, plant properties (Vicia Faba) activities through a pot experiment. The biochar (BC: 2%) to mitigate effects MP also examined. Soil (pH, EC, OM, CaCO3 some elements) significantly differed due by as well adding BC soil. pH were increased more than in control, while TDS, available P, Mn Fe decreased lower which implies adsorption microplastic. Plant such enzymes, chlorophyll fresh dry weight roots, adversely affected contamination; mitigated effect, especially with low MPs. shoot was cytogenetic analysis showed that mitotic index reduced compared control (9.39%), at 1.5% (7.11%) although it less control. percentage abnormalities V. faba root tip cells under control; 7.5% total count bacteria fungi even or rhizosphere area did follow clear trend; increasing their activities. Microbial biomass carbon nitrogen BC. level low, MPs, 1.5 Thus, could be promising mitigating negative when applied suitable need future studies.
