Abstract Given the complexity and high demands of research supervision intricate emotional experiences supervisors, there is a need to explore how they regulate their emotions, particularly across various disciplinary backgrounds. The current study explored emotion regulation strategies employed by supervisors during process supervising graduate students. Based on data collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, documentation from six in different institutions China, seven were identified further categorized into two groups, that is, antecedent-focused (prevention, intervention, reinterpretation, reconcentration, detachment) response-focused (suppression expression) strategies. findings shed light dilemmas faced paradox aroused context-dependent non-standardized nature within an accountability-based managerial context. implications for supervisors’ authentic supervisory situations are discussed, insights universities’ policy-making offered.

Success in EFL/ESL contexts by teachers requires developing some essential characteristics consisting of several interacting variables and underlying constructs.
