Abstract Aims While the cross-sectional relationship between internet gaming disorder (IGD) and depression is well-established, whether IGD predicts future remains debated, underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This large-scale, three-wave longitudinal study aimed to clarify predictive role of in explore mediating effects resilience sleep distress. Methods A cohort 41,215 middle school students from Zigong City was assessed at three time points: November 2021 (T1), 2022 (T2) 2023 (T3). IGD, depression, distress were measured using standardized questionnaires. Multiple logistic regression used examine associations baseline both concurrent subsequent depression. Mediation analyses conducted with T1 as predictor, T2 serial mediators T3 outcome. To test robustness findings, a series sensitivity performed. Additionally, sex differences mediation pathways explored. Results (1) independently associated (T1: adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 4.76, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.79–5.98, p < 0.001), 1 year later (T2: AOR 1.42, CI: 1.16–1.74, 0.001) 2 years (T3: 1.24, 1.01–1.53, 0.042); (2) multiple effect identified The 60.7% unadjusted model 33.3% model, accounting for distress, other covariates. our findings supported by various analyses; (3) Sex observed roles resilience, being higher boys compared girls. Conclusions significant predictor adolescents, serving key mediators. Early identification targeted interventions may help prevent Intervention strategies should prioritize enhancing improving quality, particularly among risk.

Previous studies have reported a potential negative correlation between physical activity (PA) and mobile phone addiction (MPA) among adolescents young adults. To date, the strength of this has not been well characterized. This review meta-analysis aimed to synthesize available empirical examine correlations PA MPA We also explored several moderators, including time data collection, country or region, type population, associated with relationship MPA.Four electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, Web Science) were searched from database inception March 2022 identify relevant studies. The pooled Pearson coefficients their corresponding 95% CIs for calculated using inverse variance method. methodological quality included cross-sectional was determined based on Joanna Briggs Institute appraisal checklist. study conformed PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Review Meta-analyses) guidelines. In total, 892 articles identified, which 22 selected inclusion exclusion criteria. final 17 Results random effects modeling revealed moderate adults (summary r=-0.243, P<.001). Sensitivity publication bias analyses further demonstrated robustness our results. All scored as high low risk bias. Subgroup analysis indicated that none hypothesized moderators (time population) significantly affected MPA, confirmed by mixed analysis. In addition, in collection subgroups, medium effect sizes obtained collected before COVID-19 (r=-0.333, P<.001) during (r=-0.207, subgroup coefficient China other developing regions showed similarly size (r=-0.201, P<.001 r= -0.217, P<.001, respectively). However, developed significant (r=-0.446, P=.39). we found (r=-0.250, (r=-0.129, P=.24).Our results demonstrate moderately influenced population.
