In the fourth industrial revolution, achieving sustainable agricultural development while feeding a growing world population and maintaining balanced interrelationship between economy, society, environment has been significant challenge. However, COVID-19 disrupted extension advisory systems, affecting all market participants. The complexity of pandemic impacted private sector, public staff, donor funding, education, research subsequently human nutrition. Pollution of aquatic ecosystems is one the major challenges affecting many countries world. Heavy metal pollutants, in particular, threaten life organisms (fauna and flora) and, more importantly, humans who consume products as a critical source proteins. In present study, concentrations selected heavy metals (cobalt- Co, Chromium-Cr, nickel- Ni manganese- Mn) Limnothrissa miodon, locally known 'Kapenta' were assessed using Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer (MP AES) 4200 at Zambia Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI). The fish was collected from Lake Kariba, Zambia, which divided into four fisheries management strata (I, II, III, IV). health risks to consumers evaluated Estimated Daily Intake (EDI), Target Hazard Quotient (THQ) Index (HI). Analysis variance (ANOVA) used assess difference means concentration across for each element. all elements within permissible limits considered be safe human consumption based on Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) standards. However, individual varied significantly with stratum I II showing higher levels general except Mn highest III compared other strata. Furthermore, observed II. EDIs, THQs HIs element did not show any threat lake. Further studies are required better understand potential sources regularly monitor existing activities that may elevate levels.

Anaesthetics in aquaculture serve as a stress avoidance mechanism, mitigating stress-related impacts during fish handling and transportation. This study assessed the efficacy of sodium bicarbonate clove stem powder anaesthetic agents for Nile Tilapia juveniles. Four hundred twenty uniform O. niloticus juveniles (5 ± 0.5 g, 74 5 mm) were exposed to varying concentrations (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 g/L) (0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 20 L transparent plastic tanks. The results showed an inverse relationship between concentration induction time, direct with recovery correlation times both (P < 0.001). Appropriate determined 25 g/L 10 powder. At these levels, met ideal criteria (3-5 min induction, 5-10 recovery), exhibiting normal behavior 100% survival after week monitoring.

An important abiotic stressor that hinders plant growth, nutrient uptake, and global agricultural productivity is soil salinity. Among the different strategies to overcome issue of salinity in agriculture sector, growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have gained recognition as promising beneficial microbes can improve plants’ response biotic stressors. The tolerance traits promote growth eight PGPR strains (RT1, RT2, RT3, RT4, RT5, RT7, RT12) were evaluated this study. During screening, one strain, RT12, had highest activity salt group. strain when subjected NaCl stress showed quantitative ACC-deaminase activity, presence at various concentrations, demonstrating extraordinary by withstanding doses up 3M NaCl. In order further investigate effects on Brassica juncea (mustard), which was identified Pseudomonas putida using 16s RNA sequencing, inoculated. Two treatments (100 150 mM) applied mustard variety ‘Mingora’ a greenhouse. results revealed through ACC utilization, directly induced salt-stressed plants lowering excess ethylene production. All parameters negatively impacted an increase concentration uninoculated plants. However, P. RT12 inoculation enhanced all parameters, antioxidant production, total soluble sugar (TSS), protein (TP), proline, relative water content (RWC), chlorophyll contents, uptake salt-treated with also caused marked decline Na+ K+ shoot. By maintaining greater K+/Na+ ratio tissues RT12-inoculated compared controls, change ion helped maintain nutritional balance findings suggest inoculating deaminase-producing PGPR, such may boost resistance.

Lakes around the world, including Ghana’s Lake Volta, are facing insidious threats from pollutants due to high dependency on aquatic ecosystems. Cage aquaculture is expanding across Africa because of its potential address food insecurity, provide livelihoods, and boost local economies. However, uncontrolled expansion cage can have significant negative impacts water resources, environmental footprints that threaten biodiversity. Given intensification for tilapia farming we advocate a transition inland-integrated systems promote circularity. Strengthening stakeholder collaboration essential enhancing competence in mapping inland areas, identifying eco-friendly alternatives reinforcing regulations, with particular emphasis culture Volta. These strategies reduce pressures imposed by farms lake while promoting best management practices. Additionally, capacity building must be an ongoing process knowledge gaps, development effective preparedness plans executed during emergencies. The pollution illegal mining Black Volta River, tributary along endemic diseases lake, further compounds fish health welfare issues. This underscores urgent need implement protect mitigate disease spread, ensure safe production.

Many conventional farming approaches in developing nations segregate livestock and crop production, ignoring the synergistic advantages sustainable land management possibilities that may be gained by combining two. In order to increase agricultural output foster grassland conservation, this chapter investigates idea of merging systems. By highlighting challenges approach, draws attention potential benefits integration, including enhanced soil fertility, efficient resource use, increased productivity, better protection ecosystems. The importance viability a variety integrated methods, agro-pastoral, mixed, silvopastoral systems, geographical settings, are explored. purpose is educate policymakers, academics, practitioners on need integrating production for achieving long-term sustainability low-income nations.

As a land-locked country in Southern Africa, Zambia is rich natural resources suitable for fish production. However, aquaculture still its infancy with enormous potential as most of Zambia’s now comes from capture fisheries. The aim this study was to review the recent progress, status, challenges, and opportunities industry while drawing some lessons China’s experience, focusing on policy instruments, external support, quality seeds, investment environment possible adaptation. To achieve this, we reviewed existing literature about Zambia. This paper starts by reviewing overall fishery sector’s developments based analysis relevant statistics over decades before narrowing down sub-sector. shows that production has continued expand significantly will soon play leading role food nutrition security faces major challenges relating investments, science technology, seed feed, an underdeveloped value chain besides increasing demand products. Nevertheless, great exists further develop sub-sector meet ever-growing products caused mainly rapid population increase.
