Due to the constantly growing customers' demand for local products, a significant rise in craft breweries' number, as well beer production, has been observed last years. The sustainability of breweries is hot scientific topic, which involves water and waste management, energy efficiency, renewable implementation. Life cycle assessment (LCA) life costing (LCC) are useful tools compare alternative management pathways standardized manner, highlighting hotspots with highest environmental/economic impact. Brewery-spent grain (BSG) represents main organic by-product production; traditionally, it used animal feed. Abstract Efficient electrochemical hydrogenation (ECH) of organic compounds is essential for sustainability, promoting chemical feedstock circularity and synthetic fuel production. This study investigates the ECH benzoic acid, phenol, guaiacol, their mixtures, key components in upgradeable oils, using a carbon-supported PtRu catalyst under varying initial concentrations, temperatures, current densities. Phenol achieved highest conversion (83.17%) with 60% Faradaic efficiency (FE). In acid + phenol yielded best performance (64.19% conversion, 74% FE), indicating synergistic effect. Notably, BA consistently exhibited 100% selectivity cyclohexane carboxylic (CCA) across all conditions. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that parallel adsorption on cathode (−1.12 eV) more stable than perpendicular positioning (-0.58 eV), explaining high CCA. These findings provide foundation future developments real pyrolysis oil.
