The extraction of olive oil produces significant residual olive-mill wastewater (OMW). composition OMW varies according to the type olive, fruit’s ripeness level, and method (traditional one-pressing system or continuous systems based on centrifugation pulp). In olive-producing countries, is important for environment economy also a low-cost source polyphenolic compounds with high antioxidant properties. Olive oil’s properties, such as its anti-atherogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, immunological modulator effects, have been attributed polyphenols. this study, cloud point (CPE) was used recover from OMW. total micellar phase three recoveries 24.2% polyphenols (after sonication) 504 mg GAE/Kg. Furthermore, addition recovered enhanced extended shelf life without changing organoleptic There 42.2% change in after 0.5% enrichment dispersions. Thus, it suggested that CPE could lead better waste management industry improve nutritional quality food products.

Since antiquity, numerous advantages of olive oil and its by-products have been recognized in various domains, including cooking, skincare, healthcare. Extra virgin is a crucial component the Mediterranean diet; several compounds exert antioxidant, anti-proliferative, anti-angiogenic pro-apoptotic effects against variety cancers, also affect cellular metabolism, targeting cancer cells through their metabolic derangements. Numerous tree parts, leaves, can contribute metabolites useful to human health. Olive mill waste water (OMWW), dark pungent liquid residue produced vast amounts during extraction, contains high organic matter concentrations that may seriously contaminate soil surrounding waters if not managed properly. However, OMWW rich source phytochemicals with health benefits. In ancient Rome, farmers would employ what was known as amurca, mulch-like by-product production, for many purposes applications. Several studies investigated chemopreventive activities extracts. The most prevalent polyphenol extracts hydroxytyrosol (HT). Verbascoside oleuperin are abundant. We assessed impact one such extract, A009, on endothelial (HUVEC) cells. A009 vitro assays (growth, migration, adhesion) inhibited angiogenesis vivo , outperforming HT alone. from tumors showed potential cardioprotective mitigating cardiotoxicity induced by chemotherapy drugs, commonly used treatment, reducing up-regulation pro-inflammatory markers cardiomyocytes. Extracts other evaluated biological international research teams. results obtained make them promising candidates further development nutraceutical cosmeceutical agents or dietary supplement, especially prevention even co-treatments anti-cancer drugs. Furthermore, offer benefits opens up avenues application field cardio-oncology.

Biofilms represent complex three-dimensional microbial communities that can harbor strains highly resistant to antimicrobial agents. These structures, which form on both biotic and abiotic surfaces, are associated with food spoilage increased complications in hospitalized patients. Consequently, there is significant interest developing novel biofilm infection control strategies, particularly those focusing natural molecules dual antibiofilm properties. In this study, olive tree twigs from three varieties of Olea europea chemlal (CH), Azeradj (AZ), wild-type europaea sylvestris (W) were collected the Kabylia region Algeria. The samples underwent systematic extraction evaluated for their antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay, properties via disk diffusion minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), capabilities. Results demonstrated twig extracts exhibited substantial antibacterial potential. activity, measured through DPPH scavenging, showed IC50 values ranging 38.12 ± 1.52 µg/mL 148.7 1.23 µg/mL. When tested against six pathogenic bacterial strains, including ATCC reference milk isolates, MIC ranged 1.18 mg/mL 4.71 mg/mL. Notably, sub-inhibitory concentrations significantly reduced formation across most inhibition rates varying 21% 90.43%. effectiveness was dependent strain, variety, extract used. Statistical analysis confirmed significance these results (p < 0.05). Given antioxidant, antibacterial, extracts, they show promise further development as surface disinfectants potential applications safety control. Additional research warranted fully characterize mechanisms action optimize practical applications.

One of the most persistent and damaging diseases in olive trees is knot disease. This disease caused by an infection Gram-negative phytopathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. that notoriously difficult to control. The increasing demand for eco-friendly sustainable agricultural solutions has driven research into plant-based agents. study investigated antibacterial properties essential oils (EOs) their constituents, mill wastewater (OMWW), phenolic compound hydroxytyrosol (HTyr), algae garlic extracts, as well copper-based plant-stimulating commercial products against P. savastanoi, a significant tree pathogen. Antibacterial activity was determined using Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion broth microdilution methods. EOs derived from Thymus vulgaris (thyme) Origanum compactum (oregano), key components thymol carvacrol, exhibited strongest efficacy. Conversely, OMWW, products, extracts showed limited no vitro, with method. While were highly effective regardless testing method, efficacy bacterial growth inhibition strain- concentration-dependent, possibly highlighting some metabolic or genetic variability target pathogen, even though MIC values all tested strains equal. Bacterial membrane disruption consequent leakage metabolites modes action carvacrol oregano EO. Carvacrol also promoted plant lettuce without phytotoxic effects, although minor necrotic lesions observed young leaves at higher concentrations, presenting these agents potential next-generation green bactericides.
