Neurological disorders pose significant global public health challenges, with a rising prevalence and complex pathophysiological mechanisms that impose substantial social economic burdens. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), its holistic approach multi-target effects, has gained increasing attention in the treatment of neurological diseases. This review explores bioactive compounds derived from herbal plants, focusing on their action, underlying pathways, potential applications functional food development. The highlights neuroprotective properties flavonoids, alkaloids, polysaccharides, polyphenols found key TCM herbs such as Scutellaria baicalensis , Salvia miltiorrhiza Ligusticum chuanxiong Gastrodia elata . These have demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neurogenic making them promising candidates for prevention conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s (PD), depression. Furthermore, synergistic effects formulations targeting multiple signaling pathways offer advantages over single-target therapies, especially combating neurodegenerative also discusses challenges future directions integrating these into foods dietary supplements, aiming to improve enhance clinical outcomes. Ultimately, this work aims provide valuable insights TCM-based interventions promoting well-being addressing burden disorders.

Furthermore, the roles gut microbiome dyshomeostasis in their pathogeneses are just beginning to be uncovered, adding another level complexity. In recent years, significant efforts have been directed toward discovering multimodal yet safe therapeutics counteract psychological deficits. Rosmarinic acid (RA), a polyphenol found several medicinal herbs, has received considerable attention as potential multifaceted therapeutic agent, particularly for neuropsychiatric conditions. order critically evaluate this aspect, data was compiled consolidated after extensive searches on scholarly databases like PubMed, Google Scholar, Web Science. Peer-reviewed publications which focused RA agent were included regardless year publication country origin. Based pre-clinical clinical evidence, review delves into various mechanistic aspects antidepressant, anxiolytic, sleep-promoting functions RA. beneficial effects gut-microbiome-brain (GMB) axis implications regulation neuroprotective pathways also discussed, with particular focus exploiting them ameliorate Our assessment indicated that neuroprotectant against conditions beneficially influences plethora targets related redox, inflammatory, synaptic, cell death, neurotrophic, signaling pathways. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder that significantly impacts learning, daily functioning, and personal development. Astaxanthin (ASTA), naturally occurring antioxidant, has garnered interest as potential therapeutic agent for various diseases, particularly in mitigating oxidative stress. This study explores novel application of ASTA the context ADHD, aiming to investigate its effects underlying mechanisms. Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), widely used ADHD model animals, were treated with (50/100 mg/kg/day) three weeks, 5 mg/kg/day atomoxetine (ATO) positive, Wistar Kyoto (WKY) control. Behavioral improvements assessed using open field test (OFT) Morris water maze (MWM). Biochemical analyses conducted evaluate changes levels neurotrophic factors, while histological examinations performed assess neuroprotective effects. Additionally, role brain–gut axis was investigated. The behavioral symptoms hyperactivity, anxiety, impaired spatial memory animals mitigated by ASTA. improvement primarily attributed restoration neurotransmitter levels, dopamine (DA), achieved through modulation several critical components within system, including receptor 1 (DR1), transporter (DAT), tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), synaptic-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25). regulating serotonin (SERT) glial cell-derived factor (GDNF) supports recovery facilitates optimal brain Furthermore, cerebellar cells protected, structure intestinal microbiota regulated. can mitigate SHR dopaminergic multiple neurotransmitters, neuro-intestinal environment, which establishes promising nutraceutical candidate adjunctive therapy pediatric ADHD.
