This review summarizes the effectiveness of scalable mind-body internet and mobile-based interventions (IMIs) on depression anxiety symptoms in adults living with chronic physical conditions. Six databases (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, SCOPUS, EMBASE, CINAHL, CENTRAL) were searched for randomized controlled trials published from database inception to March 2023. Mind-body IMIs included cognitive behavioral therapy, breathwork, meditation, mindfulness, yoga or Tai-chi. To focus a greater potential scale, intervention delivery needed be online no limited facilitation by study personnel. The primary outcome was mean change scores (Hedges’ g ). In subgroup analyses, random-effects models used calculate pooled effect size estimates based personnel support level, techniques, condition, survey type. Meta-regression conducted age length. Fifty-six studies met inclusion criteria (sample 7691, participants 43 years, 58% female): 30% (n = 17) neurological conditions, 12% 7) cardiovascular 11% cancer 6), 43% other conditions 24), 4% 2) multiple demonstrated statistically significant reductions ( SMD -0.33 [-0.40, -0.26], p<0.001) -0.26 [-0.36, -0.17], p<0.001). Heterogeneity moderate. Scalable hold promise as managing without differences seen While modest, sizes are comparable those pharmacological therapy. field would benefit detailed reporting participant demographics including related technological proficiency, well further evaluation non-CBT interventions. Anxiety and stress plague populations worldwide. Voluntary regulated breathing practices offer a tool to address this epidemic. We examined peer-reviewed published literature understand effective approaches implementation of these practices. PubMed ScienceDirect were searched identify clinical trials evaluating isolated breathing-based interventions with psychometric stress/anxiety outcomes. Two independent reviewers conducted all screening data extraction. Of 2904 unique articles, 731 abstracts, 181 full texts screened, 58 met the inclusion criteria. Fifty-four studies' 72 effective. Components ineffective evaluated develop conceptual framework factors associated reduction effectiveness. Effective breath avoided fast-only paces sessions <5 min, while including human-guided training, multiple sessions, long-term practice. Population, other paces, session duration ≥5 group versus individual or at-home not Analysis that did fit revealed extensive standing, interruptions, involuntary diaphragmatic obstruction, inadequate training for highly technical may render otherwise promising ineffective. Following evidence-based can help maximize benefits Future research is warranted further refine easily accessible intervention relief.

Abstract Breathwork as a means of inducing non-ordinary states consciousness is gaining traction potential therapeutic modality. We examined the effects breathwork (in form connected breathing) on electroencephalography (EEG) and mood in 20 healthy participants (aged between 23 39 years (female = 11, M age 29). In addition, to compare with other consciousness, we assessed subjective using 11 Dimension Altered State Consciousness questionnaire. Abstract Breathing exercises have been shown to reduce mental health problems among clinical and non-clinical populations. Although virtual reality (VR) breathing interventions are assumed potential benefits, it remains unclear whether VR more effective at improving than non-VR interventions. We conducted a systematic literature search in six electronic databases (Web of Science, PsycINFO, Embase, Cochrane Central Register Controlled Trials, Scopus, PubMed) from inception 30th September, 2022. included randomized controlled trials adults evaluating effects compared on primary outcomes (stress, anxiety mood), secondary physiological stress measures (e.g., heart rate (HR), variability (HRV)). Within these selected studies, we explored differences likeability future use between 2.848 records were identified which 65 full-text articles assessed. Six RCTs included, five suitable for meta-analyses. Comparing interventions, there no significant overall health, stress, or mood, nor HR HRV. There was evidence that participants liked non-VR, would them the future. These results suggest is outcomes, HR, Further research required determine may be advantages longer-term VR-implementation practice, explore possible mechanisms.

Abstract Background: Patients with breast cancer experience distress, treatment-related discomfort, and fear of recurrence, from initial diagnosis through survivorship. Aims: This study aimed to assess the effects breathwork interventions on mental health quality life patients survivors. Methods: We searched multiple databases for randomized controlled trials involving in cancer. Results: Of 5,909 items screened, 16 studies 1,726 participants met inclusion criteria. Breathing included yoga (n=9), qigong (n=4), other breathing techniques (n=3). found that highest average risk bias was randomization process, challenges accurately evaluating deviations intended due unquantified adherence at-home practices, although overall generally low. Interventions were prescribed daily or weekly, lasting one week two years. Outcomes treatment side effects, fatigue, sleep, life, biomarkers (e.g., inflammatory markers), psychosocial factors, anxiety, depression. Conclusions: Although positive outcomes reported domains emotional wellbeing, null findings vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes interventions. The wide range administered various phases care continuum complicates firm conclusions. Recruitment issues noted studies. Future research should standardize outcome measures, increase accessibility intervention (ie via Telehealth) improve adherence, include longer follow-up periods evaluate survival recurrence.
