Generative Artificial intelligence (GenAI) such as ChatGPT has elicited strong reactions from almost all stakeholders across the education system. Education-oriented and academic social media communities provide an important venue for these to share experiences exchange ideas about GenAI, which is constructive developing human-centered policies. This study examines early user consisting of 725 Reddit threads between 06/2022 05/2023. Through natural language processing (NLP) content analysis, we observe increasingly negative sentiment in discussion identify six main categories student faculty GenAI education. Abstract Generative AI has prompted educators to reevaluate traditional teaching and assessment methods. This study examines AI’s ability write essays analysing Old English poetry; human markers assessed attempted distinguish them from authentic analyses of poetry by first-year undergraduate students in at the University Oxford. Using standard UK grading system, AI-written averaged a score 60.46, whilst achieved 63.57, margin difference not statistically significant ( p = 0.10). Notably, student submissions applied nuanced understanding cultural context secondary criticism their close reading, while often described rather than analysed, lacking depth evaluation poetic features, sometimes failing properly recognise key aspects passages. Distinguishing features included detailed sustained analysis style, as well spelling errors lack structural cohesion. essays, on other hand, exhibited more formal structure tone but fell short incisive critique form effect.
