Background: As a leading cause of visual impairment in elderly, age-related macular degeneration has an increasing global incidence annually. It’s association towards cataract surgery remains debate. Aim: The objective this study is to summarize and evaluate the between degeneration. Methods: A systematic search strategy was conducted across several electronic reference databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library, ProQuest) included articles published 2018–2023. Duplicate publications, review articles, incomplete were excluded. Results: Databases searching identified total 254 articles. Of these, 29 passed screening process resulted 12 for full-text assessment. 6 did not outcome interest. Hence, we found six appropriate studies review. Conclusion: results suggest that there may be increased risk AMD progression development. This increase according time follow-up since surgery. To improve medical treatment patients with AMD, additional research essential understanding disease state its impact on mainly prospective multicenter RCT studies.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) causes blindness due to loss of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and photoreceptors (PRs), which comprise the two outermost layers retina. Given small size macula importance direct contact between RPE PRs, use scaffolds for targeted reconstruction outer retina in later stage AMD other dystrophies is particularly attractive. We developed microfabricated, honeycomb-patterned, biodegradable poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) deliver organized, adjacent PRs subretinal space. Furthermore, an optimized process was photocure PGS, shortening scaffold production time from days minutes. The resulting robustly supported seeding human pluripotent stem cell-derived either separately or as a dual cell-layered construct. These advanced, economical, versatile can accelerate cell transplantation efforts benefit patients with degenerative diseases.

The most prevalent reason for vision impairment in aging inhabitants is age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a posterior ocular disease with poor understanding of the anatomic, genetic, and pathophysiological progression disease. Recently, new insights exploring role atrophic changes retinal pigment epithelium, extracellular drusen deposits, lysosomal lipofuscin, various genes have been investigated AMD. Hence, this review explores incidence risk factors AMD, such as oxidative stress, inflammation, complement system, involvement bioactive lipids their angiogenesis. In addition to intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy other therapeutic interventions oral kinase inhibitors, photodynamic, gene, antioxidant therapy, well benefits drawbacks AMD treatment options, strategic drug delivery methods, including routes focus on pharmacokinetics, are investigated. Further, recent advancements nanoformulations polymeric lipid nanocarriers, liposomes, etc., intended pros cons too summarized. Therefore, purpose give researchers an pathophysiology, emphasis angiogenesis, function lipids, options. Additionally, options that development system(s) via several can aid advancement choices.

Oxidation of lipids and lipoproteins contributes to inflammation processes that promote the development eye diseases. This is a consequence metabolism dysregulation; for instance, dysfunctional peroxisomal lipid metabolism. Dysfunction peroxidation critical factor in oxidative stress causes ROS-induced cell damage. Targeting treat ocular diseases an interesting effective approach now being considered. Indeed, among structures, retina fundamental tissue shows high Lipids glucose are fuel substrates photoreceptor mitochondria; therefore, rich lipids, especially phospholipids cholesterol. The imbalance cholesterol homeostasis accumulation human Bruch's membrane related diseases, such as AMD. In fact, preclinical tests performed mice models with AMD, making this area promising field. Abstract Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting is considered one of the most advanced tools to build up materials for tissue engineering. The aim this work was design, development and characterization a bioink composed human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSC) extrusion through nozzles create these 3D structures that might potentially be apply replace function damaged natural tissue. In study, we focused on advantages wide potential biocompatible biomaterials, such as hyaluronic acid alginate inclusion hMSC. characterized its physical (pH, osmolality, degradation, swelling, porosity, surface electrical properties, conductivity, structure), mechanical (rheology printability) biological (viability proliferation) properties. developed showed high porosity swelling capacity, while degradation rate dependent temperature. also negative appropriate rheological properties required bioprinting. Moreover, stress-stability studies did not show any sign instability. provided an excellent environment promotion viability growth hMSC cells. Our reports first-time study effect storage temperature cell bioinks, besides showing our promoted after being extruded by bioprinter. These results support suggestion hMSC-composed fulfills all requirements engineering can proposed tool with applications in regenerative medicine Graphical abstract
