Abstract Regurgitation is a phenomenon that part of the digestive process in insects have crop organ. It basically stimulated by liquid food concentration and viscosity. However, it has been proposed regurgitation can be defensive barrier to poisoning, then would considered as emesis. We tested response Mexican fruit fly, Anastrepha ludens (Loew) (Diptera: Tephritidae), sublethal doses insecticide malathion sugar or protein–sugar solutions (i.e., baits) with varying concentrations. By feeding flies six concentrations (1–50%) without insecticide, we determined they regurgitated more when on 20% than 50% solution. solution, two doses. Flies fed those protein (4%)–sugar (20 50%) over‐regurgitated about 2× controls, i.e., solutions. The over‐regurgitation did not prevent reduction survival fecundity malathion. seems provoked noxious substance, addition (sugar) concentration. overresponse may separated from normal used meal

Abstract Yeasts play an important role in the life cycle and biology of insect pest Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura), commonly known as spotted wing drosophila (SWD). Adult larvae this species are to feed benefit from yeast their diet. In addition, yeasts were found be attractive SWD repeatedly associated with SWD. Among those, Hanseniaspora uvarum is most mentioned. The present study explores chemical composition effects three H. strains five ( Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida sp., Issatchenkia terricola, Metschnikowia pulcherrima Saccharomycopsis vini ) diet adults. different used influenced mortality, fecundity ingestion by females. Abstract This opinion addresses the re-evaluation of erythritol (E 968) as food additive and an application for its exemption from laxative warning label requirement established under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011. Erythritol is a polyol obtained by fermentation with Moniliella pollinis BC or megachiliensis KW3-6, followed purifications drying. readily dose-dependently absorbed in humans can be metabolised to erythronate small extent. then excreted unchanged urine. In this study, we explored the potential of fruit fly regurgitation as a window to understand complex behaviors, such predation and defense mechanisms, with implications for species-specific control measures that can enhance quality yield. We leverage deep learning computer vision technologies propose three distinct methodologies advance recognition, extraction, trajectory tracking regurgitation. These methods show promise broader applications in insect behavioral studies. Our evaluations indicate I3D model achieved Top-1 Accuracy 96.3% which is notable improvement over C3D X3D models. The segmentation regurgitated substance via combined U-Net CBAM framework attains an MIOU 90.96%, outperforming standard network Furthermore, utilized threshold OpenCV precise quantification liquid, while integration Yolov5 DeepSort algorithms provided 99.8% accuracy detection tracking. success these suggests their efficacy research comprehensive tool interdisciplinary behavior analysis, leading more efficient non-destructive strategies agricultural settings.

Damage from termite infestations is economically significant and control can be costly when requiring the widespread use of conventional insecticides. Erythritol, a polyalcohol sweetener that safe for human consumption, causes increased mortality ingested by some insects, indicating potential as alternative insecticide. Here, we investigated applicability erythritol novel toxicant method control. Eastern subterranean termites, Reticulitermes flavipes Kollar (Blattodea: Rhinotermitidae), were fed paper foods treated with increasing concentrations assessed bait consumption. Ants are significant structural and agricultural pests, generating a need for human-safe effective insecticides ant control. Erythritol, sugar alcohol used in many commercial food products, reduces survival diverse insect taxa including fruit flies, termites, mosquitos. Erythritol also decreases longevity red imported fire ants; however, its effects on other species ability to be transferred naïve colony members at toxic doses have not been explored. Here, we show that erythritol Tetramorium immigrans Santschi (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) concentration-dependent manner. Access ad-libitum water reduced the of erythritol, but worker mortality was still increased over controls with ad-lib water. Foraging T. workers lethal levels nest mates had directly ingested erythritol. Similar patterns following ingestion were observed Formica glacialis Wheeler Formicidae), Camponotus subarbatus Emery chromaiodes Bolton Formicidae). These findings suggest may highly insecticide several genera ants. Erythritol's potential effectiveness social control is augmented by spread through colonies via transfer (trophallaxis) between workers.
