Plant disease control requires novel approaches to mitigate the spread of and losses caused by current, emerging, re-emerging diseases adapt plant protection global climate change restrictions on use conventional pesticides. Currently, management relies mainly biopesticides, which are required for sustainable plant-protection products. Functional peptides candidate biopesticides because they originate from living organisms or synthetic analogs provide mechanisms action against pathogens. Hundreds compounds exist that cover an extensive range activities viruses, bacteria phytoplasmas, fungi oomycetes, nematodes. Natural sources, chemical synthesis, biotechnological platforms may at large scale industry growers. Antimicrobial and plant defence elicitor peptides have received attention on last decades as novel tools to combat bacterial diseases. We previously reported a library of peptide conjugates resulting from the combination an antimicrobial (BP16, BP143, BP387 or BP475) sequence (flg15, BP13, Pep13 PIP1). From this library, we selected set 14 including both highly poorly active sequences performed structure-activity relationship study by NMR MD simulations. Analysis their structure in 30% TFE-d3 zwitterionic DPC-d38 anionic SDS-d25 micelles showed that presence α-helix fragment together with flexible random coil can be related high antibacterial activity low hemolysis. Given the limited types of agricultural bactericides and rapid emergence antimicrobial resistance, bacterial plant diseases pose a serious threat to production, which calls for effective agents with low propensity resistance. Host defense peptides (HDPs) have drawn significant attention their broad-spectrum activity. In this study, we found that HPD-mimicking poly(2-oxazoline) Gly-POX20 exhibits potent activity against phytopathogens, superior antibacterial selectivity proteolytic stability compared natural HDP melittin.
