The relationship between humans and plastics has become intricate due to their versatile nature low production cost. Plastics generation surpassed that of other manufactured products, which, coupled with the prevailing poor waste management systems, makes it a serious problem for terrestrial aquatic environments as its final destination. Their extensive presence continued pose significant threat, not only ecosystem but also approximately 3 billion people relying on livelihood. Even more disturbing were recent findings these in food drinking water evidence human exposure, long-term health effects which are largely unknown. This ubiquitous phenomenon over time put under critical observation, leading development many local international policies, resolutions, directives aimed at addressing reversing menace. review provided first snapshot global governance strategies currently mitigating plastic pollution, limitations, future directions. revealed several aspects microplastics (MPs) pollution be overlooked policy formulation, laxity implementation, an apparent lack indices ascertain impact regulations. Furthermore, there is no regulation MPs contamination funding research into alternatives. This, therefore, necessitates need well-coordinated approach national levels scale up policies all countries translate them from paper measurable, holistic, realizable actions will address forms pollution.

Due to the 'forever' degrading nature of plastic waste, waste management is often complicated. The applications are ubiquitous and inevitable in many scenarios. Current global plastics production ca. 3.5 MMT per year, with current trend, will reach 25,000 by 2040. However, rapid growth manufacture material's inherent resulted accumulation a vast amount garbage. recycling rate <10 %, while large volumes discarded cause environmental ecological problems. Recycling rates for vary widely region type plastic. In some developed countries, around 20-30 developing nations, it much lower. These statistics highlight magnitude problem urgent need comprehensive strategies manage more effectively reduce its impact on environment. This review critically analyses past studies essential efficient techniques turning trash into treasure. Additionally, an attempt has been made provide understanding upcycling process, 3Rs policy, life-cycle assessment (LCA) conversion. advocates pyrolysis as one most promising methods valuable chemicals. addition, can be severely impacted due uncontrollable events, such Covid 19 pandemic. chemical certainly bring value end-of-life LCA analysis indicated there still huge scope innovation area compared mechanical recycling. formulation policies heightened public participation could play pivotal role reducing repercussions facilitating shift towards sustainable future.

Plastic materials that are less than 5 mm in size defined as Microplastics (MPs). MPs intentionally produced called primary MPs; however, the most abundant type environment consists of remainder created by fragmentation large plastic debris through physical, chemical, and oxidative processes, which secondary MPs. Due to their abundance environment, poor degradability, toxicological properties, negative impact on aquatic terrestrial organisms, including humans, MP pollution has become a global environmental issue. Combatting requires both remediation preventive measures. Although is must, considering where technology stands today, it may take long time make happen. Prevention, other hand, can be should done now. However, effectiveness measures depends heavily how well escape routes researched understood. In this research, we argue such (rather, loopholes) exist not only due mismanaged waste, but also cracks current waste management systems. One known loophole facilitated wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). The inability existing WWTP retain finer MPs, finally released water bodies together with treated wastewater, along return captured larger back landfills release into land applications, few examples. Organic composting upcycling incineration ash provide pathways. addition, important understand plastics circulation (active use idling) responsible for producing regular wear tear. Closing these loopholes best attempted policy interventions.

Abstract Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) have become an important global environmental issue due to their widespread contamination in the environment. This review summarizes existing literature on effects of MPs/NPs three biomarkers including enzymatic activity, gene expression, histopathology various organisms from 2016 2021 suggests a path forward for future research. Application are increasingly used experimental toxicology studies because early signs stress organisms. Between 2021, 70% published focused aquatic organisms, compared terrestrial Zebrafish were widely as model organism study adverse impacts MPs/NPs. Polystyrene (PS) most polymer Fewer histopathological alterations activity expression different exposed There is growing need better understand toxic environmentally relevant concentrations both

This study investigates the scope of global marine microplastic pollution and its implications on ecosystems human health. We first delve into how plastic enters ocean, with an emphasis accumulation along coastlines, particularly formation impact Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP). Through a concentration map microplastics across five continents, distribution is revealed. Furthermore, effects wildlife are explored, as well their potential entry food chain, posing public health risks. The results our research underscore serious threats to health, emphasizing need for more scientific policy measures address this challenge.
