Purpose Research indicated that dietary antioxidants could improve immune system performance. This study aims to investigate the association of COVID-19 symptoms, total antioxidant capacity and serum inflammatory markers, with intake among angina patients. Design/methodology/approach A food frequency questionnaire was used in a cross-sectional 135 patients COVID-19, assess consumption. Serum levels tumor necrosis factor, interleukin 1ß, malondialdehyde, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods. Findings Among patients, 76.67% followed unhealthy patterns 23.33% anti-inflammatory before hospitalization. The pattern had less fever ( p = 0.021), cough 0.018), dyspnea 0.024), diarrhea 0.014) pneumonia severity index compared pattern. significantly negative < 0.05). Originality/value There are significant between inflammation markers is need for more clinical trial studies approval these results.

UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) catalyze the conjugation of glucuronic acid with endogenous and exogenous lipophilic small molecules to facilitate their inactivation excretion from body. This represents approximately 35 % all phase II metabolic transformations. Fatty acids oxidized eicosanoid derivatives can be metabolized by UGTs. F

UVA radiation leads to oxidative stress and inflammation in skin cells. Therefore, the aim of this study was compare effect lipid extracts from microalgae Nannochloropsis oceanica (N.o.) (marine) Chlorococcum amblystomatis (C.a.) (freshwater) on redox balance PUFA metabolism human fibroblasts modified by UVA. Lipid both types introduced into fibroblast medium after irradiation significantly reduced level ROS enhanced expression Nrf2, which increased activity/level antioxidants (SOD1/2, CAT, GSH, Trx). The reduction accompanied a decrease 4-HNE, its protein adducts carbonyl groups. Microalgae also activity COX1/2, FAAH MAGL UVA, as consequence, mediators (especially N.o.) decreased, group endocannabinoids (AEA, 2-AG, PEA) eicosanoids (PGE2, 15d-PGJ2, TXB2, 15-HETE), acting mainly through receptors related G protein, increases This further contributed pro-inflammatory signaling at NF-κB TNFα levels. it is suggested that N.o. C.a. can be used regenerate disturbed radiation.

Oxidative stress often affects the structure and metabolism of lipids, which in case polyunsaturated free fatty acids (PUFAs) leads to a self-catalysed chain reaction lipid peroxidation (LPO). The LPO PUFAs formation various aldehydes, such as malondialdehyde, 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), 4-hydroxyhexenal, 4-oxo-2-nonenal. Among reactive 4-HNE is major bioactive product LPO, has high affinity for binding proteins. This review briefly discusses available information on applicability assessment options its protein adducts determined by immunosorbent assay (the 4-HNE-ELISA) patients with diseases known be associated oxidative stress, 4-HNE. Despite differences protocols applied antibodies used, all studies confirmed usefulness 4-HNE-ELISA research purposes. Since different used could give values when same samples, should combined other complementary analytical methods allow comparisons between obtained healthy individuals. large variations, reviewed this paper have mostly shown significantly increased levels 4-HNE-protein samples from compared As any biomarker studied patients, it preferred perform not only single-time analysis but measurements at multiple time points monitor dynamics occurrence systemic response disease causing it. especially important acute diseases, individual blood can fluctuate more than threefold within few days depending state health, was COVID-19 patients.

Background Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare and severe post-COVID-19 complication with multiple phenotypes. Objectives The aim of this study to biomarkers (cytokines oxidative stress) critical MIS-C patients observe if there association between these mortality. Methods A single-center prospective enrolled (with positive molecular test), aged 1 month 18 years age. Data was collected from 20 pediatric intensive care unit (PICU)’s bed. Inflammatory stress markers) were performed on day 3 after hospitalization. Survival rate calculated, Kaplan-Meier curves plotted. Univariate multivariate Cox regression analyses conducted. ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) curve analysis performed. Results conclusions total 41 out 109 admitted at PICU suspected during the period included, which 33 (80.5%) male, 9 (22%) under one year old, 30 (73.2%) presented comorbidities. Among them, 16 (39%) did not survive. mean survival time shorter higher levels IL-17A (≥ 19.71 pg/mL) (115 vs 323 days, p = 0.004). Higher associated mortality both crude model (HR 1.03, CI95% 1.004-1.057, 0.022) adjusted 1.043, 1.013-1.075, 0.012). revealed cut-off value for 14.32 pg/ml. other immunological markers demonstrate an (p>0.05). Our findings suggest that high are greater risk death.

Oxidative stress (OS) plays a key role in the pathophysiology of COVID-19 and may be associated with sequelae after severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study evaluated OS inflammation biomarkers blood from individuals post-acute (PASC). 64 male female participants were distributed into three groups: healthy (n = 20), acute patients (symptoms for <3 weeks, n 15), PASC >12 29). Analyses included inflammatory cytokines, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, markers, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione S-transferase (GST), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), reduced (GSH), uric acid (UA), thiobarbituric reactive substances (TBARS), protein carbonyls (PC). Individuals showed increased IL-6 IL-8. Both groups exhibited decreased SOD CAT. GST only group. Elevated GGT GSH found High UA levels observed individuals. There no changes TBARS values ⁣⁣in However, PC concentrations elevated this Correlations identified between markers parameters. These findings suggest that pronounced OS, which potentially exacerbates disease complications. Monitoring could aid patient prognosis management.

Epidemiological investigations consistently demonstrate an overrepresentation of the elderly in COVID-19 hospitalizations and fatalities, making advanced age as a major predictor disease severity. Despite this, comprehensive understanding cellular molecular mechanisms explaining how old represents risk factor remain elusive. To investigate we compared SARS-CoV-2 infection outcomes young adults (2 months) geriatric (15–22 mice. Both groups K18-ACE2 mice were intranasally infected with 500 TCID50 Delta variant analyses performed on days 3, 5, 7 post-infection (DPI). Analyses included pulmonary cytokines, lung RNA-seq, viral loads, lipidomic profiles, histological assessments, concurrent evaluation percentage reaching humane endpoints. The findings unveiled notable differences, aged exhibiting impaired clearance, reduced survival, failure to recover weight loss due infection. RNA-seq data suggested greater damage respiratory function Additionally, elderly-infected exhibited deficient antiviral response characterized by Th1-associated mediators (IFNγ, CCL2, CCL3, CXCL9) diminished number macrophages, NK cells, T cells. Furthermore, mass-spectrometry analysis lipidome indicated altered expression several lipids immunomodulatory pro-resolution effects such Resolvin, HOTrEs, NeuroP, but also DiHOMEs-related ARDS. These indicate that aging affects immunity, leading prolonged infection, damage, poorer clinical outcomes. This underscores potential efficacy treatments for subjects experiencing symptoms severe COVID-19.
