Despite recent advances in cancer therapy, anthracycline-based combination therapy remains the standardized first-line strategy and has been found to have effective antitumor actions. Anthracyclines are extremely cardiotoxic, which limits use of these powerful chemotherapeutic agents. Although numerous studies conducted on cardiotoxicity anthracyclines, precise mechanisms by doxorubicin causes cardiomyocyte death myocardial dysfunction remain incompletely understood. This review highlights updates therapies involved doxorubicin-induced death, including autophagy, ferroptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, apoptosis, as well cardiovascular resulting atrophy, defects calcium handling, thrombosis, cell senescence. We sought uncover potential therapeutic approaches manage anthracycline via manipulation crucial targets dysfunction.

Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge [Lamiaceae; Salviae miltiorrhizae radix et rhizoma] is a traditional Chinese medication used extensively as therapeutic agent against atherosclerosis (AS) because of its substantial cardiovascular protective properties well ability to regulate the signaling cascades and molecular targets involved in AS. Preclinical research has shown that hydrophilic metabolites S. represented by danshensu (DSS), salvianolic acid A (SAA), B (SAB) can reduce endothelial dysfunction, inhibit smooth muscle cell migration proliferation, block platelet aggregation, have antithrombotic properties, modulate vascular tone. Furthermore, studies clinically beneficial, while some evidence also supports safety effectiveness diseases linked The present study review anti-atherosclerotic pharmacological activities, pharmacokinetic characteristics, drug interactions, evaluations over last 20 years. Herein, we focus on cellular AS; clarify mechanisms activities DSS, SAA, SAB; discuss future needs priorities light limitations existing studies. This intended establish groundwork offer thorough perspective for deeper investigations studies, clinical uses, product development efforts natural modulator

Background Recently, attention has been paid to the protective properties of active ingredients in Salvia miltiorrhiza (AISM) against organ toxicity induced by chemotherapy drugs. Purpose present systematic review is evaluate chemoprotective effects and mechanisms AISM on vitro vivo models doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC). Methods According PRISMA guideline, current was conducted Web Science, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library collect all relevant studies “the role DIC” published up until May 2023. The SYRCLE's tool used identify potential risk bias. Results Twenty-two eligible articles were included this review. Eleven types for DIC, which have following effects: improvement physical signs biochemical indicators, reduction cardiac function damage caused protection heart tissue structure, enhancement myocardial cell viability, prevention cardiomyocyte apoptosis, increase chemosensitivity cancer cells Doxorubicin, etc . cardioprotective mechanism involves inhibiting attenuating oxidative stress, suppressing endoplasmic reticulum (ER) decreasing inflammation, improving mitochondrial structure function, affecting cellular autophagy calcium homeostasis. quality scores ranged from 4 7 points (a total 10 points), according bias tool. Conclusion This demonstrated that DIC through several main such as anti-apoptosis, antioxidant effects, anti-ER anti-inflammatory.
