The Amazon rainforest, spanning multiple countries in South America, is the world’s largest equatorial expanse, housing a vast array of relatively unknown plant and animal species. Encompassing planet’s greatest flora, offers tremendous variety plants from which natural lignocellulosic fibers (NLFs) can be extracted. In this century, NLFs, have long been utilized by indigenous populations Amazon, garnered interest as potential reinforcements for composites, whether polymer- or cement-based, various technical applications such packaging, construction, automotive products, ballistic armor. A comparison with synthetic materials like glass, carbon, aramid fibers, well other established highlights cost specific property advantages (ANFs). Notably, sustainable cultivation extraction ANFs, alternatives to deforestation livestock pasture, contribute preservation rainforest. This review article provides comprehensive examination recent studies directly related ANF-reinforced polymer matrix composites. advantages, proposed applications, reported challenges are highlighted, shedding light on these unique fibers.

Circular economy concepts—including a circular bioeconomy—aim to transition the current, essentially linear, economic system more sustainable one. However, organizations and researchers currently define concept differently, resulting in inconsistencies difficulty effectively implementing framework. In this paper, we provide our perspective on conceptual definitions of economy, bioeconomy, outlining potential overlaps differences proposing harmonized interpretation that stresses importance carbon cycle. We conclude key goal is slow, narrow, close material resource loops, built foundation renewable energy non-toxic materials. Further, bioeconomy goes beyond simply switching fossil resources with renewable, biological resources. It requires low-carbon inputs, supply chains, promising disruptive conversion technologies for transformation bioresources high-value bio-based products, materials, fuels. The particular, capturing atmospheric via photosynthesis exploiting unique feature fullest extent possible. sits at intersection between concept, framework focuses closing cycle stressing opportunity create an additional sink capability technosphere by utilizing biogenic products materials are circulated same or improved use cycles. Lastly, will necessitate set consistent metrics fit all industries.

A paradigm shift from a linear economy to circular is crucial reduce pressure on the environment and improve security of supply primary raw materials. Under this new paradigm, governed by imperatives "reduce, reuse, recycle", extraction resources minimised extending useful life existing This paper seeks identify drivers barriers circularisation provide guidance for effective policies hasten transition it. The innovative contribution made area research empirical evidence it provides role played economic, social, environmental factors in economy. To achieve this, yearly data 2010 2019, panel 19 European Union countries were analysed employing Panel-Corrected Standard Errors estimator, which was shown be an appropriate estimator data's characteristics. material use rate used as proxy main findings suggest that age distribution country significant predictor Older people tend reluctant change their behaviour, while young are more inclined move away so-called 'take-make-waste' extractive industrial model. Policies directed older sensibilize them benefits importance thus required. When per capita income increases, propensity accept products containing recycled materials decreases. finding merits particular attention policymakers. In turn, inequality makes moving toward difficult. Those middle-income bracket likely exhibit green implies they aware issues.

Fossil fuels have provided humans with an enormous and stable primary energy source to rapidly develop advanced technologies, increasingly efficient machines industries, as well greater varieties of consumer products. While enjoy the conveniences modern world, critical global issues also been created, such exponential hike in waste generation, rapid depletion finite fossil fuels, environmental pollution, climate change. Two major anthropogenic wastes are biomass plastic waste. Each year, 464 million tonnes generated globally, only 20% recycled, 25% incinerated, while 55% landfilled. Likewise, 140 billion from agriculture sector 181.5 lignocellulosic forestry agricultural residues produced worldwide annually, 40% 4.5% reuse respectively. This mountainous underutilised presented a good opportunity for recycling into biofuels instead landfilling or open dumping, thus promoting circular bioeconomy. Pyrolysis stands out promising thermochemical route synthesize biofuels, co-pyrolysis benefits synergistic interactions between both feedstocks, enhancing yield quality biofuels. Therefore, this review, mechanism is described, recent advances field comprehensively presented. The importance applying bioeconomy frameworks on highlighted.

High rates of resource consumption and waste generation have put pressure on environmental systems one the solutions to this concerning behavior is a circular bioeconomy (CBE). However, for CBE succeed, new businesses business models are needed, which many drawbacks might be faced. Therefore, article aimed (i) identify drivers, opportunities, challenges, barriers in both from theoretical practical perspectives, (ii) present regional differences those aspects different continents. A mixed-method approach was adopted, comprising systematic literature review semi-structured interviews with 32 organizations 18 countries 4 continents (Africa, America, Australia, Europe). Eight twenty as well fifteen drivers eight opportunities were identified. The main barrier challenge pointed out by stakeholders lack financial resources/capital, price competitiveness traditional/linear product offers. most prominent driver opportunity establishment public policies/governmental support, recovery. Regional CBEs (by continent) also Advancing requires setting strategies overcome developing and/or making adequate technology available locally, enabling traditional (linear non-renewable-based) options. This study unveils series managerial implications. There risk rebound effects, such becoming mainstream feedstock bioproducts being introduced market low-price strategies, thus triggering increased consumption. Premium pricing need considered bio-based products (compared non-bio-based products). Moreover, technological development plays role driving innovation, pioneers lead policies. For succeed there needs further greater connection among actors value chain, converging resilient CBE.

Abstract Bacterial cellulose (BC), a promising polysaccharide of microbial origin, is usually produced through synthetic (chemically defined) or natural media comprising various environmental wastes (with exact composition unknown), low-cost and readily available means. Various agricultural, industrial, food processing have been explored for sustainable BC production. Both conventional (using one variable at time) statistical approaches used optimization, either during the static fermentation to obtain membranes (pellicle) agitated that yields suspended fibers (pellets). Multiple studies addressed production, however, strategies applied in utilizing production not fully covered. The present study reviews nutritional requirements maximal including different optimization cultivation conditions. Furthermore, commonly-used applications BC, fields, recent developments, our current understanding also summarized.
