A
comprehensive
overview
of
food
mycotoxins,
their
toxicity,
and
contemporary
detoxification
techniques
is
given
in
this
article.
Mycotoxins,
which
are
harmful
secondary
metabolites
generated
by
a
variety
fungi,
including
Fusarium,
Aspergillus,
Penicillium,
provide
serious
health
concerns
to
humans
animals.
These
include
hepatotoxicity,
neurotoxicity,
carcinogenicity.
Mycotoxins
commonly
found
basic
products,
as
evidenced
recent
studies,
raising
worries
about
public
safety.
The
article
discusses
detection
such
enzyme-linked
immunosorbent
assays
(ELISA),
quick
strip
tests.
Moreover,
the
use
various
control
systems
associated
with
mycotoxinis
highlighted.
In
addition,
novel
strategies
nanotechnology,
plant
extracts,
omics
studies
were
also
discussed.
When
taken
whole,
analysis
helps
clarify
pressing
need
for
efficient
management
monitoring
prevent
mycotoxin
contamination
chain.

Assessment of total aflatoxin in selected crops using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA): A sustainable monitoring and control of aflatoxin in both rural and urban areas in Nigeria

aflatoxin
maize,
cowpeas,
melon
seeds,
groundnuts,
yam
chips
collected
Lagos,
Nigeria,

processing
methods

levels.

fifty
samples
were

three
markets
using
coning
quartering
techniques.

by
washing,
aeration,
drying

50°C

hours

Mycotoxins
are
secondary
metabolites
of
filamentous
fungi
and
ubiquitous
dietary
contaminants.
Aflatoxins,
a
group
mycotoxins
with
high
prevalence
toxicity,
have
raised
level
public
health
concern,
the
most
prevalent
toxic
being
aflatoxin
B1
(AFB1).
Many
aspects
appertaining
to
AFB1
poisoning
not
well
understood.
Yet
this
information
is
necessary
devise
appropriate
surveillance
mitigation
strategies
against
human
animal
aflatoxicosis.
This
review
provides
an
in-depth
update
work
carried
out
on
mycotoxin
poisoning,
particularly
aflatoxicosis
in
humans
animals,
identify
gaps
knowledge.
Hypotheses
explaining
functional
significance
fungal
biology
their
epidemiological
data
presented
briefly
discussed.
The
toxicology
aflatoxins
challenges
discussed
depth.
It
was
concluded
that
identification
potential
mycotoxin-hazard-prone
food
items
quantification
associated
risk
cancer
ailments
prime
priority.
There
dearth
reliable
sampling
methodologies
for
estimating
feed.
