Abstract
Lichens
have
been
reappraised
as
self-sustaining
and
long-living
ecosystems
in
which
a
multiplicity
of
microorganisms
are
housed,
addition
to
the
main
symbiotic
partners.
Lichen-associated
microfungi
can
frequently
occur
cryptically,
their
species
diversity
has
recently
more
fully
elucidated
by
DNA
metabarcoding
studies
culture
isolations.
These
lichen-associated
fungi
represent
wide
array
major
lineages
ascomycetes
basidiomycetes,
including
both
filamentous
yeast
species.
Thanks
isolations,
morphology
subset
microfungal
studied.
Metabarcoding
analyses
shown
high
ascomycetous
two
cosmopolitan
rock-inhabiting
lichens

Rhizoplaca
