Abstract Visible light driven synthesis of substituted benzo[ b ]thiophenes from phenylethenethiol under an air atmosphere at room temperature is reported, using eosin Y as organophotoredox catalyst by intramolecular C−S bond formation. This process accepts a wide range functional groups tolerance and generates highly environmentally benign conditions via transition-metal-free organic photoredox catalysis.
