Abstract
Progress
in
determining
the
precise
organization
and
function
of
claustrum
(CLA)
has
been
hindered
by
difficulty
reliably
targeting
these
neurons.
To
overcome
this,
we
used
a
projection‐based
strategy
to
selectively
label
CLA
principal
Combined
with
adeno‐associated
virus
(AAV)
monosynaptic
rabies
tracing
techniques,
systematically
examined
pre‐synaptic
input
axonal
output
this
structure.

found
that
neurons
projecting
retrosplenial
cortex
(RSP)
collateralize
extensively
innervate

higher‐order
cortical
regions.

subcortical
labeling
was
found,

amygdala
