It is widely recognized that pharmaceutical marketing contributed to the ongoing US opioid epidemic, but less understood about how industry used scientific evidence generate product demand, shape regulation, and change clinician behavior. In this qualitative study, we characterize select articles by support safety effectiveness claims use a novel database, Opioid Industry Documents Archive, determine notable elements of non-industry documents citing advance each claim. We found 15 were collectively mentioned in 3666 supporting 5 common, inaccurate claims: opioids are effective for treatment chronic, non-cancer pain; "rarely" addictive; "pseudo-addiction" due inadequate pain management; no dose too high; screening tools can identify those at risk developing addiction. The eventual normalization these symbolically associating with evidence, building credibility, expanding diversifying audiences parties asserting claims, obfuscating conflicts interest. Understanding how medical cannabis (MC) use is integrated into practice for rheumatic disease management essential. Cannabis dispensaries in the U.S. aim to contribute communities through philanthropy, but some nonprofits hesitate accept donations. This exploratory case study Colorado investigates nonprofits’ perceptions of cannabis philanthropy by surveying 317 organizations. Despite being illegal federally legal at state level, most respondents viewed positively. Of who had negative views, many believe their views would shift if were legalized. Furthermore, majority do not consider funds derived from sales as “tainted” or coming a morally questionable source. The cannabis industry has been described using the commercial determinants of health framework because it seeks to increase sales and profits through efforts change political environment. To understanding these industry's efforts, this study describes campaign contributions in Colorado an analysis public records.We reviewed datasets posted online at Secretary State's Transparent Contribution Expenditure Reporting (TRACER) Campaign Finance System. We generated descriptive data on elections conducted regressions identify predictors contributions, associations between lagged a legislator's score (how closely aligned lawmaker's legislative history is with from -1 1).Between 2005-2021, 429 cannabis-affiliated contributors gave $4,658,385 (2021 inflation-adjusted) 512 electoral committees. Contributions came primarily non-profits (45%), businesses (27%), individuals (25%). After recreational legalization 2012, non-profit donors ties way businesses, business owners, lobbyists. Cannabis local state-wide ballot initiative campaigns historically made up majority spending, but candidate committees more than tripled 2009-2010 cycle 2019-2020 cycle. The risk for cannabis use disorder (CUD) is elevated among U.S. adults with chronic pain, and CUD rates are disproportionately increasing in this group. Little known about the role of medical laws (MCL) recreational (RCL) these increases. Among Veterans Health Administration (VHA) patients, we examined whether MCL RCL effects on prevalence differed between patients without pain.Patients ≥1 primary care, emergency, or mental health visit to VHA no hospice/palliative care within a given calendar year, 2005-2019 (yearly n=3,234,382 4,579,994) were analyzed using electronic record (EHR) data. To estimate enactment increases diagnosed staggered-adoption difference-in-difference analyses used, fitting linear binomial regression model fixed state, categorical time-varying law status, state-level sociodemographic covariates, pain indicator, patient covariates (age group [18-34, 35-64; 65-75], sex, race ethnicity). Pain was categorized an American Society taxonomy painful conditions.In enacting led 0·14% (95% CI=0·12%-0·15%) absolute increase prevalence, 8·4% total MCL-enacting states attributable MCL.
