Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and alcohol-related (ALD) together represent the majority of individuals with (SLD). MASLD ALD prevalence continues to rise globally, which is driven by several factors including an aging population, increasing cardiometabolic risk such as obesity diabetes mellitus, trends in high-risk unhealthy alcohol use surged during COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, MASLD, well ALD-related cirrhosis hepatocellular carcinoma, also on rise, becoming major etiologies contributing end-stage among adults awaiting transplantation. Accurately understanding epidemiology critical guide healthcare resource planning health policy. Accurate estimates are particularly important understand context recent updates nomenclature terminology. This review provides updated assessment existing literature describing ALD.

Background: Treatment for alcohol use disorder (AUD) has the potential to improve health and quality of life. Little is known about disparities in AUD treatment utilization at intersection race gender. We examined among those diagnosed with a community sample, by race, ethnicity, gender, whether varied insurance. also criminal legal history socioeconomic status moderated treatment. Methods: used data from nationally representative 2017 2019 National Survey on Drug Use Health, most recent 3-year period available. The analytic sample included noninstitutionalized adults aged 18 64 who met criteria past year identified as White, Black, or Latinx ( n = 7782). gender subgroup insurance status, estimating weighted logistic regressions, adjusting indicators clinical need concordance Institute Medicine definition healthcare disparity. Results: Only 5.4% United States utilized year. did not significantly differ between White males other racial, ethnic, groups; however, we identify Medicaid enrollees were uninsured. Among enrollees, females (3.2%) had lower than (9.3%, P < .05). uninsured individuals, (1.8%) (6.2%, Conclusions: was extremely low AUD. Ethnic revealed when examining differences status. Strategies improving access that address structural barriers care are needed should consider targeted approaches
