Phytochemical composition and antimicrobial, antibiofilm, antioxidant effects of a newly described Himalayan lichen Placidium deosaiense Usman Khalid growing in Pakistan were investigated. HPLC–DAD methods used for identification secondary metabolites acetone methanol extracts. The total phenolics content was measured using spectrophotometric method. study investigated the (DPPH-scavenging activity assay reducing-power assay), antibacterial (minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) minimum bactericidal (MBC)), antibiofilm (inhibition biofilm formation reduction mature biofilm) activities extracts P. isolated parietin. chemical constituents olivetol, olivetolic acid, haematommic fallacinol, parietin identified as major compounds tested lichen. Parietin from extract on separation column. had higher values TPC (21.67 mg GAE/g) than extract. Isolated showed best measures, according to DPPH-scavenging (IC50 = 51.616 μg/mL) assay. Although (especially against Proteus mirabilis ATCC 12453), demonstrated superior Staphylococcus aureus 25923). This is first report phytochemical description some 45 species genus Placidium. research will pave way further exploration new this its metabolites, which are important medicine pharmacy.
